so im reading all these and wondering if it is legal or not. I was thinking of playing real money on party poker in Illinois. Anyone know for sure?
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Not necessarily. There are all sorts of questions regarding this because the US law is a little vague about it. But from what I've read, technically it is illegal.

in short - no it's definitely not.
But obviously it's not being enforced right now so I wouldn't worry too much about it. But just to be clear, gambling "over wires" is 100% illegal in the United States.

First IL has a law stating that internet gambling is NOT LEGAL (one of only 6 states).
See here for info:

Second I whish people would stop quoting "over wires", this DOES NOT include the internet, it is for VOICE traffic only. That is why the DOJ is trying other means to stop the online poker rooms from advertising on TV and such.
If "over wires" was the case, it would be very easy to block ALL gaming traffic from the border routers before leaving the US.
