This tourney was on last night and it was a riot.
First of all, Phil Helmuth. I've seen him quite a few times and I'm not sure how or why he makes so many people's "favorite" list.
1. Every time he lost a hand, regardless of whether it was a bad beat or not, he would whine about it.
2. Strange and a little creepy: every so often he would just get up and go hug his mom in the stands. He did this at least 6 or 7 times.
3.Other times he would just get up and walk around for seemingly no reason at all.
4.He had the audacity to ask if everyone would stop the tourney for a few minutes while he went to the bathroom. Everyone except one guy at the table actually agreed too. The guy who disagreed said that they get a break every 90 minutes and Helmuth was just going to have to hold it in. Then Helmuth started whining and walked away from the table to go to the bathroom anyway. ...funny part was the camera focusing in on him...after he was out of sight of the players, his stroll turned into a sprint.
5. He just has that face and that personaliy that just irritates the hell out of me. Whiny little (very rich) mama's boy who rubs it in when he wins, and whines when he loses. He finished 3rd, by the way.
...all in all a pretty fun tourney to watch. Welcome Back Kotter was the host which was funny in and of itself. Awkward, but funny.
So do you think that Helmuth is irritating on purpose to put people on tilt? It sure worked on me. I was 1000 miles and 8 years away from the guy and he even put me on tilt, sort of.
I think the answer lies in that annoying sound Jim Carrey makes in Dumb and Dumber. Some people are just born annoying. Hats off to Phil for finding a way to turn a profit by being the kid everyone wants to beat up on the playground.
Me personally, I like the Phil Ivy type players who just keep their traps shut and play good poker.

the reason i like to watch phil is because he wines so much. And like him or not, bring him to the table and he is one of the best.
He is a self made man in the poker world, and very highly respected for his tournament skills. He makes my favorite list because of his combination of skill/entertainment, also his hand of the week is usually a pretty fun read at www.philhellmuth.com not near technical as most like howard lederers, but still coming accross with a poker lesson.

Hellmuth is a piece of work though...
Announcers nowadays seem to tear him a new one every chance they get, too...
