I was playing in a no-limit game sitting at SB and was dealt As Ks. There was a couple of small raises pre-flop and I decided to move all in. I was called by the big blind and here was the showdown:
My Cards: As Ks
Opponent: Ah Ad
My heart sank as i saw my crushed hand.
The flop came: 7h Kh 5h
I was still a huge underdog and was now up against a flush draw to add insult to injury.
The Turn: 7h Kh 5h Kd
I hit the trips! I couldn't believe it but it still wasn't over. My oponent couldn't believe it but he was praying to get a heart.
The river: 7h Kh 5h kd (don't remember the card but wasn't a heart or A)
I never saw my friend so mad or upset but I guess I would be too....Even to this day everytime we are playing and talk about bad beats he keeps on telling the story of his cracked aces. We usually tell the story to all of the newcomers to the game when they get a bad beat! It reasures them that it was just a run of bad luck!
I just wanted to share this story because I don't think that I will ever forget that hand.
By the way....I ended up winning the tournament (it was my first victory of many to come)!
Even to this day I can't help but chuckle inside when I see pocket aces.

Well, I do not have any hard data to back me up like comparisons to how many outs you had or what not but I believe I saw elsewhere, where AK loses 90-95% of the time. If you totally miss the flop you can forget about it you know...99% favorite to the AA. So I would be angry as well if there was serious money at stake but it's ridiculous for him to refer to it again and again and again. That's poker right? If he plays regularly he has most likely pulled a beat SIMILAR to that, he just doesn't tell you about it. You can't get sympathy or credit for being a great player by saying, "Yep, I hit my only card to make a straight flush with 27o to beat his aces." You see my point? Be the bigger man about it and do not complain when he bad beats you. I look back now and remember when I would cry like a baby when I was bbeaten...Oh well, that's poker--sorry to be repititious, but it is a great statement.

well............
I remember posting about an online tournament I was in where I was shortstacked (only about 5x the bigblind) about 2/3 of the way into the tourney and I caught the pocket rockets...
Went all in and the only caller, the chip leader at the table called w/ k-9 offsuit and caught two kings on the flop and killed me.
No words can excuse those kind of travesties...

Ok ok I getcha. I wasn't really serious, it's just a stupid statement, the other guy was a joker for calling you. A better thought would be to remember how many OTHER times guys called you with two undercards when you went all-in with aces and won...I know it's hard to compare but it happens to everyone. Sorry though.

The thing about bad beats is that we all remember them, we don't remember the times the aces held or everybody folded because that is what normally happens therefore it is not a remarkable or memorable event. how many times have you heard someone say "I raised with AA today, got one caller and the flop came down ace high so I check raised him and he folded"? Never, of course, because that is unremarkable and unmemorable as a hand.
Whenever I see TV poker the player who has just been knocked out always says that he didn't catch any cards all night and he took a bad beat at such and such a point in the game. Strangely, this same player rarely refers to the hands in the same tournament where he caught a miracle to win a pot earier on.
Conversely, the guy who wins the tournament always says that he felt he played really good poker and he felt he was reading his opponents quite well making the right calls and raises and folding at the right times. He never mentions the fact that the poker gods gave him pocket aces twice, pocket kings twice and poket queens three times and he certainly doesn't mention the hand where he called an all in thinking his two pair was good on the flop only to have his opponent roll a straight before the two pair fills to a boat on the river.

In any type of game, weather it be nl holdem,7 card, pinocle or a game of carribean stud. You will always,ALWAYS,remember those tough, tough beats. You hardly remeber building your bank roll, but you'll never stop thinking about how you lost it, its just like Matt Damon said it Rounders
