Software for Private Online Games?

Posted Thu Jan 06, 2005 11:31 am GMT by rtmp
Is there any software available to arrange online games with friends? I have a group that wants to play regularly online and we don't want to give up a rake to some host.

Is it possible to set up a private "play" money table somewhere? That way you pay no real rake and can still play with just your friends.

If you have enough FPP (frequent player points), Pokerstars allows you to set up private tournaments. It is my understanding that you have to play for a minimum of a $5.50 entry. Over a 1 year period my friends and I paid several hundred in rakes, and it just doesn't seem right. All they are doing is fascilitating the game and the distribution of payments/winnings.

If there were some kind of game fascilitation software available for purchase, we would be all over it as it would reduce the costs over time. There has to be something like this available but nobody seems to know about it. We can handle the money on our own, we just need the software to fascilitate online games among friends from around the country.

This may or may not work for you, but you can go to a free site like Yahoo Games + set up invite-only games. Of course, you'll have to keep track of what everone starts + ends with, and handle the money yourselves outside of the site, which can be a PITA....

I believe Pokerroom.com allows private free-money tables. Unfortunately, not tournament structure, so no blind increases, etc.

I think playstation2 has a world championship poker game that you can play on-line using the playstation network (whatever that is. It's on the back of the box)
