This should be treated as SPAM because it sure is. First time poster and he even gives up the time and channel. I hope Fat Tony kicks his ass.

Either way, the show is going to absolutely suck. It's another example of the mainstream media trying to capitalize on the poker fad.

well it was written by David Levien & Brian Koppelman, the same people who wrote Rounders so, I'll definately give it a peep and see how it is.

It's bad because it's a waste of time and energy to watch a show that is going to suck.

And it's bad that fad-followers can be so mindless to watch a show that some network executives hastily threw together to try to make a buck off of you.

If I gave you a rotten apple with worms coming out of it, you wouldn't eat it, right? But if I put a sticker on it that said World Series of Poker official apple you'd probably gobble it up and ask for more.

personally, I'm all for anything that will attarct more suckers to the poker table.

Geez. It's a poker show. Watch it or don't watch it. I thought people here might be a little excited, since it's the same guys who created Rounders. I watched the half-hour preview show, and it looks like to me that they've put in a lot of effort to at least make it look authentic. After that, it's up to the writing and acting. So, I'll give it a shot. Why wouldn't ESPN put out this show at this time when poker has gained so much popularity?

definitely not up to the writing caliber of rounders, the dialogue was pretty horrific. i hope this show gets better in time. Daniel Negreanu even did a cameo on this show and he said that after he watched it, he hated it too

Hammy dialogue aside, I really enjoyed it! I'll be watching it weekly, I'm not ashamed :D

Posted Mon Jan 17, 2005 12:23 am GMT by JohnnyCache
I'm going to strike a balance. I'm going to watch it...but I'm not going to pay to watch it.

Posted Mon Jan 24, 2005 3:56 am GMT by Teekan
does anyone know where that article is where Negreanu talks about tilt after he did the cameo and see it for the first time?

Bad dialogue, bad acting, unbelievable plot, and to top it all off: the actual poker scenes are ridiculous!

So what exactly are you guys enjoying about this show?

Posted Mon Jan 24, 2005 11:27 am GMT by brygerbs
i like the show. i'm not ashamed to watch it either.

Posted Mon Jan 24, 2005 1:43 pm GMT by Geno
The 'British' man at the start of episode 2 offended me with his bad accent and general idiocy at the table but it was another ok episode.

Scott1101, it's not as bad as you think if you put on your trashy head and take off your poker head Wink

This show is nothing more that a soap opera for men and poker is just a prop from the very bad drama that it offers. I watched about 15 minutes and it was a bad as anything I've seen in TV.

Plus the show gives poker a bad name as a bunch of low lifes and cheaters.

And as far as Rounders, a tell as easy as how KGB eats cookies? No tell with any quality poker player would every see so simple.

This tell obviously was meant for people that aren't poker knowledgeable or poker novices what his tell was otherwise people who know nothing about poker would sit there and go "huh"

Ditto...there was some terrible acting in some parts (the gun scene with the black guys had me cracking up not only becuase of the humor, but becasue they acted so horribley). But overall I like the story lines, the way everything is coming out, that babe that almost looks like Trish Stratus. Its a cool little show that I'm sure I'll catch and DL every episode of.

Teekan,

I was anxious to see the first episode of TILT last night and I was pretty shocked to see that ESPN would air a show that won't help their long term goals of promoting a WSOP tour. Painting us all as gun slingin' cheats, crooked casino bosses, and all around thugs isn't the best way of selling the public on the WSOP being a contest of champion poker players.

Yes I know I did a cameo in the show... but man, I never expected them to go out of there way to show poker in the most negative light possible. With poker's growing popularity it was a given that it would receive more scrutiny and this program will certainly add diesel fuel to the fire. The show I saw last night is absolutely nothing like any poker world I've seen or been a part of.

Let's all just hope that future episodes get better rather than worse-http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-journal.php?subaction=showfull&id=1105771749&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1&

Secondly, I should clarify my position on the show TILT. I should make it clear that I did know the story involved cheating so seeing it wasn't a "shock" to me. I was a little dissapointed with the first episode because it was ALL about the cheating, but have been informed that the rest of the show's plot line WILL show poker in a better a light. As I said earlier, I'm willing to give it a chance.-http://www.fullcontactpoker.com/poker-journal.php?subaction=showfull&id=1106457325&archive=&start_from=&ucat=1&

I found an awesome site that reviews each episode on Friday after they air.

Week 3's review: http://www.sportsfanmagazine.com/content/view/1190/75/

All of the reviews are under SFM reviews on the main homepage.

Well it is a show about poker and you guys are all poker players. I wonder what cops and soldiers around the world are saying about shows that reflect their careers, probably laughing abit and mocking it. Twisted Evil

I haven't seen the show, but if they were to make an authentic poker show, I want men and women in their underwear clicking away at their mouse in front of the screen in the middle of the night. And the big drama is when the hero loses his fortunes to a guy who hits a runner-runner Wink

Agreed. WPT, ESPN, Rounders, Tilt. They all are responsible for my increased annual earnings. The dead money these shows produce is amazing. I used to sit down in a local card and every player was over 40 and had been playing longer than I've been on this planet. Now, I feel like the veteran at the tables (at least that's how it is up in Washington State).

Ever notice how each show has less and less actual poker being played?

No. But that's only because I stopped wasting an hour per week on that terrible program.

Posted Sat Mar 05, 2005 8:32 am GMT by JohnnyCache
Actually, the show might work better if they just show less poker and assure you the people are good at it. I mean, how much paperwork did you see them fill out on Ally McBeal?

Posted Mon Mar 07, 2005 2:22 am GMT by Cbroods
Ally Mcbeal?!! Hah, isn't that show like twenty years old?

Posted Mon Mar 07, 2005 8:38 am GMT by JohnnyCache
"How much paperwork do you see them doing on LA LAW"

There. I fixed it so it'd be EVEN OLDER.

OMGZ!!!!! Phil hellmuth this week!!!

I'm watching an episode. I went into this prepared to hate it, but a guy just offered to buy another dude "a little half-and-half, you know, engine and caboose"

That's the dirtiest thing I've heard on TV for a long time...so I think I'm going to finish out the hour.
