Genuine Used Casino Cards... what's the point? |

Got a couple of decks free with some chips... but they are marked. All down the outside of decks they have a pen mark which seems to denote suit, or sometimes rank. What's the point of them? Can they be 'cleaned'?

they arent marked for the suit and cards, they mark them so you cant bring them back into a casino and use them in the games. They just run some kind of marker across them.

Yeah, they arent "marked" like you would to cheat with.
They either punch a hole thru the center, or run a marker straight up the side to indicate the cards are no longer valid for casino play
I use casino seconds alot, goto my folks house and get them every time my folks ome back from a casino. They tend to spend all their player points up if they dont plan on going back to a certain casino.

These ones are marked down the side with the pen. Alas all the Clubs have the stripe in one place, all the hearts in a different place, the A and K of spades have extra dots on the side...
I can't play those in a game - no-one would ever come again! Not to mention that it would be hard not to use that information (and if I managed to somehow ignore what was right in front of me, perhaps someone else might notice).

how do you notice a dot on the side of a playing card, and if its such a concern toss the free cards out, and buy a real deck.

If it's just a bit of ink, I wonder if running a piece of sandpaper across that edge would take care of it.
Have to be careful the top and bottom surfaces weren't marked, so that might not work out. Might be worth a shot, get some really fine-grit paper.

Many of them the actual back of the card is marked. Oh well..

Well obviously buying a deck is the answer. I am merely expressing annoyance that I thought I was getting a couple of packs of decent cards with my chips and in fact they are worthless.

Wow, I haven't seen drilled or inked cards in a while, now usually they just round off the non-indexed corners, so you end up with a playable deck.

all cars in ac are holded before they give them away or sell them, most casinos sell them in the gift shop, they also round the corners out, i think vegas is the one that runs a line down the side, and usually when you buy a chip set it stats they come with used casino cards. If it stated they come with new cards then complain to where you bought them.

Idaho, a couple months ago, a guy in our home game opened up a new pack of those casino played cards. Several of the cards were bent in the corners. We tossed it right into the trash and it was the last time we bought pre-played cards.
We just figured that we probably got a bad deck but the slight price difference didn't make it worth it to keep buying them. We play with plastic Copag's now.

How often do you break open a new deck? Presumably with a friendly game you play with any reasonable deck but for big money you crack open a new deck?

I bought a batch of casino cards during my last trip and got some with my chips (ironically one deck from the chips was from Imperial Place-same as the batch I bought). They just rounded the corners on those. We go through decks all the time, mainly because we use some for euchre which only uses A-9. Those become marked real fast for poker since the high cards a dirtier than the rest.
