Honeymoon in Vegas...I need the lowdown on places to play |

Looks like I will be taking my honeymoon in las vegas sometime in June. Coincedently, the WSOP will be in full swing, but unfortunately I don't have the cash for even a $1500 event so I'll be watching instead 8)
However, I am looking for the lowdown on playing holdem in vegas. I have been playing online for a few months now, and am doing quite well in SNG's (I place in the money about 40% of the time, and have a ROI of about 70%), however I have NEVER played poker in a casino before.
I seem to be a much beter NL tournament style player then a ring game player, so I would prefer to be able to play a bunch of smaller tournaments (or even a few larger ones) then to sitting down at a 3/6 ring game etc.
Just wondering where the best places to play are (tournament wise) and am also wondering about these "player clubs cards" thingies all casino's down there seem to have, earning points etc. If I were to take about $1000 down there to gamble, would I earn enough points to do anything special with? or do you need a ton more gambling then just $1000 to get anywhere with those cards. As well, would it be more advantageous to stay in a hotel that I would gamble in and use their points, vs staying in one hotel, and exclusively gambling in another?
Thanks alot for any advice people can give me :D

Here's the best advice i can give you........
It's your honeymoon........ play in the bedroom 8)
You have a lifetime ahead of you in which to ignore your wife, you may as well give her the honeymoon

I am in agreement with Webbo again...!
Do take her for dinner in the stratosphere and be a proper honeymooner, then you have always got the chance to go back and concentrate on playing properly, with or without the new missus!
If anyone on the forum works in Vegas (I think Sal does) take their advice on cool things to do that might be off the beaten track a bit...

Hehehe, Honeymoon in Vegas would have lead to divorce in hometown USA for me. I am such a degenerate poker player that I would never have takin' my wife to Vegas for a Honeymoon. Even when I was planning our honeymoon she promptly told me Vegas was not an option. Hell, I was in Vegas three times last year and she did not travel with me one time. She know's that I'm not going to pay attention to her so why bother. By the way I do have an awesome wife and we have been to Vegas together on numorous occasions.
But, if your gonna do it there are many awesome things to do besides play poker. Show's, my current favorite running in Vegas is called the Rat Pack it's in a small off beat casino but none the less a great show. Shopping at Ceasers is a must for any wife. Don't know how you feel about guns but they have an awesome shooting range where you can shoot ant kind of automatic weapon you ever thought of from Tommy Guns to AK47's. I don't remeber exactly how much it cost but it was only about $60/70. My sister-in-law managed to empty a clip in about 7 seconds and put holes in everything from the floor to the ceiling. Clubbing is also a great nightlife alternative and all the major casinos have at least one place to party. Don't forget to go downtown AT NIGHT and check out the overhead light show know as the Freemount Street Experiance and drink beer from plastic footballs. Also most major strip casino's have at least one FANTASTIC restaurant so be sure not to eat buffets all the time. A first class dinning experiance will always make for a better night in the Honeymoon suite. One recomendation is the Nines at The Palms. Also just casino hopping and going ohh and ahhh this one is cool will take up a vast majority of your day.
Now, Poker if you must! Take a shot a single table satalite for about $200 or so and try winning your way into a bigger event at the WSOP they also offer second chance tourneys for like $200 that start late at night midnight if I remember correctly. The Orleans has tourneys twice a day noon and I believe 7:00PM, Mirage, Saharahs, Golden Nugget and Binions all have small daily Tournaments as we'll as many other places that I did not mention because I never played there. Any tourney that you may wish to play in will require that you show up at least one and in many cases two hours early just to stand in line to sign up. Saharah's Tourney's you may call in but do it early to get on the list. Just watching the WSOP can be fun but wears thin after a few hours in my opinion.
I collect $5 chips and anytime I go to Vegas much of at least one day is spent going to all the casinos to see what's new. Many casino's offer new limited edition chips on regular basis.
Be careful with your cash flow it adds up real quick when you blow a twenty in a nickle slot hangin' out with the wife and than another fifty on gifts for the loved ones back home and than , and than, and than... I am sure you get my point.
Players club cards in most cases won't get you much if all you do is play tournament poker. You gather your points and ratings at slot machines and table games such as blackjack, craps etc. All casinos have them and it certainly does not hurt to have them. Play where you feel most comfortable and make sure you get a card there. My father has a stack of cards at least two inches thick and whatever casino he goes into he pulls out the required card. Of course he is a Video Poker player and gets free rooms in almost any casino he want's.
Anyway have great trip and honeymoon and just remember your not out there alone, take care of the new bride.
Peace, HTF

hehe thanks for the kindly advice folks. Not too worry, I will be taking care of the wife, but she is quite supportive of my poker playing, so didn't mind me taking off for a day and engorging myself in poker ..but I definately cleared it with her first
Thanks for the long reply hittheflop. That pretty much sums up exactly what I was looking for!
