Well, lets see.. tips?

Rolled-up-trips is by far the best hand. You're hardly ever going to have a huge edge until later in the hand. The pots are often big enough that any reasonable hand should call, and it seems to me (in my admittedly limited seven stud experience/reading) that you're going to want to do a lot of raising in efforts to knock out hands that would be drawing live against you, etc. It makes perfect sense, if the pot is big, and you usually don't have a huge edge over anybody, knocking people out is good.

The best tip I can give you is to try to forget most of the ideas you learn from hold'em as far as starting cards, draws, etc. are concerned. And second to that would be to try to take note of as many of the board cards opponents fold as you can. I don't recall where I read this little phrase, which is a shame... but it was once said that if Limit Hold'Em is a game of big cards, Limit 7-Stud is a game of LIVE cards. Pay attention to if your key cards are dead or not (your suit, your pair outs, your straight outs) and you'll already have an edge on your low stakes competitors.

And if you're serious about it, you might want to pick up 7 Card Stud for Advanced Players by Sklansky. Can't say I've read it personally, but it comes highly recommended, and it's Sklansky, it's gotta be a good read.

STUD!? WTF!?
How dare you talk about a form of poker that isn't Hold'em. Do you REALLY want 0 replies to your posts? Come on, this is 2005, the game is Hold'em - the "I have big balls and I'll prove it" game. Any other game is inferior.
