^ LOL... nice, hard to find that many players THAT weak at one table.

Are you guys serious? This is pretty standard limit play. If you dont believe me....try it. Wait for the 3rd suited card to hit on the river, or when the 2nd highest card pairs the board-bet out. You wont win every time, but a $2 bet (in this case) at a $20 pot will take it down more than 10% of the time. If you have any table image, these bluffs are a gimme.

On any given night, I would gaurantee you that I play break even poker with the exception of a few well timed bluffs.

Great situations to bluff at:

1) suited flops, esp if 4th suited hits

2) raised pots preflop from the blind w/ all rags on the flop

3) when the board pairs-if it is a low card and you are in the blind or 2-3rd pair from any position

4) 4 card str8s on the board from blind or other if you put people on big cards (they have AK, board 6 7 8 9 x).

5) flop was checked around and last player bet-he is often on a steal and betting out on the turn can take down many pots.

There are many, many more situations too. If you are on a roll, you can bluff 3-4 pots in a row. If they dont catch you and you are smart enough not to show, you can really get some nice runs with no cards. The key is to know who will lay down a hand and who will not. Bluffing against more than 3 players against most boards is trouble. I used to just bluff when sensing weakness in late position, but now I bet out more. I even do this from early position when not on a bluff. If I think that I will call a river bet (called down 2nd pair heads up against a preflop raise w/ board A 10 9 8 5 and me w/ J10), sometimes I will just bet out, if someone just has top pair, they will rarely raise and if they were bluffing or missed a draw, they will lay down.

Dave, this is the difference between 1/2 and 10/20 at 1/2 most players don't know the fold button exsists. To convince someone you made a flush at 1/2 will take a much bigger bet than 1/10 of the pot, which unfortunatly is not possible. Hell, at 1/2 most players don't even think of a that someone might be on a flush draw. I know bluffing is a huge part of the game, but at 1/2 with a preflop raise most will call you all the way with a gutshot or A high.

^ LOL... Bravo, aces!

I'm not saying he (Sean) shouldn't have bluffed, I just think those were exceptionally bad and weak players. Don't you?

But anyway thanks for the tips. I do try stuff like that once in a while and when I do the guy's usually holding K2 for a boat LOL. But it's nice when it works.

hello,

what i find very cool to do is talk smack whilst bluffing
saying things like please dont call it u piece of donkey crap and similar remarks will make people fold.
If they do catch ur bluff wait for a strong hand and talk the same smack u can get em that way.
Either way its fun, or at least we dutch people like to think so

yup its a definite tell but only if u let it.
If u talk smack everytime u bluff its gonna be obvious.
But u can confuse people by mixing it up.
And u can get somebody on TILT, and that about the greatest thing u can do to somebody in this game. aside from beating a straight flush with a royal Smile

I just recently found this list of yours and I have put this bluff into effect most often, I absolutely love it! I take down alot of smallish pots with it and it helps my profits tremendously.

Thanks!

And on an important sidenote... I finally figured out how to make quotes, yay me! Rolling Eyes

Here's a tip on quoting: instead of using just the quote thing use quote="quotee's name". And good luck in your quoting future! Wink

dang it dude i can just see you walking down the street with two Peace Makers a Black Setson and a Old Duster

back on the Topic
when i play Limit which latly is not all that much I always use those type of Bluff's
Seem to work well expecaly if the people on the table see you as someone who Plays Tight.

i bluff similarly all the time in 1/2 and 2/4 if you dont believe me, come to the irc when im in it, and wait for the flurry of my ego boosting hand historys to hit pokerhand.org

it works. you only cost yourself by not trying.

That one works especially well after you take down 2 or 3 pots with trip 4s or trip 6s. Beginers like playing only face cards and miss out on some of the goodies like 89 suited or 34 suited. After a few "bad beats" they get timid when they're holding QQ and the flop is all lowbees and you bet it.

Newbees also miss a lot of straights for the same reason. They think they're boss when they hold AA or KK and the board is 3 4 6 7 10. But after they get nailed a time or two they start folding when the board is all "garbage" and you start betting anyway.
