NEED Advice => Internet Hold'em Book

Posted Thu Jan 13, 2005 11:25 am GMT by PocketFlush
Hi,
I've read "The Theory of Poker" and "Hold'Em Poker for Advanced Players (Advance Player)" which I tought were pretty good. Next book on my list are "Doyle Brunson's Super System" and "Winning Low-Limit Hold'em (2nd Edition)". I think these are the 4 best by the reviews I've read. I'm actually doing really well at my local live games/tourneys. My only problem, I want to play more and I started to play online. I'm definately not as successful online (I get my ass kicked) and I find that the play is very different (at least at low limit games): everybody calls all the time no mather what crap they have (so my semi-bluffs always get called), they draw out on you instead of folding, everybody bluffs like crazy and I can't read them (they're probably laughing behind their computer), people seem to not allocate value to the money they're playing (a call is just a click away), ETC. So, to get to the meat of my question, I want to read a book that specialises in covering all the issues/topics related to INTERNET HOLD'EM. I've been reading a lot of reviews and doing a lot of research and here is what I found:

- Internet Texas Hold'em by Matthew Hilger (suppose to be good for basic strategy but doesn't cover all that much Internet Poker as it's title claim)
- Killer Poker Online by John Vorhaus (reviews not too good)
- Internet Poker by Lou Krieger, Kathleen Keller Watterson (again, reviews not too good)
- Poker on the Internet by Andrew Kinsman (don't know)

SO MY QUESTION: Is there, really, a good INTERNET HOLD'EM book out there??? That really goes deap into the differences and how to adjust your play.

Thanks for all your help!
Fred

Okay, first of all, let me ask you a question.
If people are calling with everything, WHY ARE YOU SEMI-BLUFFING!? These kinds of things don't work in a low limit game because you're playing against opponents who aren't thinking about what you have. They're only concern is their cards.

Anyways, there are no specific strategies for the internet. What you have is a very loose/passive game. If you have yourself a decent bankroll, then you need to get Small Stakes Hold'em by Miller/Sklansky/Malmuth. There is hardly a mention of internet poker, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that they address very loose games specifically, which is what you're playing in. Buy it. Read it.

Theory of Poker and HEPFAP (especially the latter) are books geared towards players who play in high stakes games against good opponents. You aren't playing good opponents.

LOL, I am not anymore.

Makes sense, thanks for the advice. Do you find it's better than Lee Jones' one? It's weird though, for the same stakes at a home game, people tend to play way better and realise that they are putting real money into the pot.

That sucks, I find there are enough issues to merit a hole book on this topic.

Anyways, thanks again for the advice, I'll get a book on Low-Limit / Small Stakes and read it back to back before playing online again.
