How many times do I have to repeat myself?

Hello all,
I am new around here but have been lurking for a couple of days. So far I have gotten some great info but still want some more details. First off, I am willing, though hardly able, to pay whatever necessary for quality chips. So like most people I am trying to get what I want for as little as possible -- wife, 3 kids, house, military pay, etc...

Anyway, Obviously Paulson’s are the $h!t, and I would love to have them.
I have looked at www.dice702.com and spoke with them on the phone this very evening... None are available until Feb 15 and will be aprx $1 ea. Very acceptable price.

The other side of the chip - as it were - is ASM/Pokerchips.com for customs; or Bluechip chips from buypokerchips.com; OR even still T. R. King has some nice chips as well.

Here's my take on those mentioned (keeping in mind I am new to poker in general - just bought my first pack of KEMs yesterday - and own no poker chips at all worth mentioning).

ASM - Excellent quality, but have that new feel aka sharp corners and somewhat slick depending on which mold. Custom design unless you want multi-colored edge spots, this being my biggest con for them. Price is average... $1.45 - .50cent ea. if you want edge spots. Long wait for shipping.

Bluechips/pokerchips.com - Excellent quality, slightly over priced. Stock colors though good with multi-colored edge spots. Excellent "worn in feel". Fast shipping and great customer service.

T.R. King - Now these are the most intriguing to me for this reason. They are the cheapest I have found; 90cent ea max, as low as 50cent ea. 75 cent ea if you want fully custom and can find a friend who wants to split an order of 5000 (that’s the catch). I also really like the colors they offer although the main drawback seems to be that they are very shiny though they are great quality and have relatively "warn in" corners, i.e. not sharp. I also like the "crown" mold. There are some nice examples of their older chips from "New China Club" at http://www.oldvegaschips.com/obsoletechips3.htm

Anway what do you all think?

You should definetly check out Johns site www.pokerchipreviews.com hes moving to a new server so it may be down for a couple of days but great info there. There is a group buy on the 2+2 forum for some custom TRKing Kings Crown chips with custom edge spots (multi colored and such). Their price is going to be $.85 each and the set is looking pretty good. I have a set of TRKing chips and love them, they are great chips. Im sure otheres will chime in with more info as well, there are a lot of chip experts on this forum. HTH

Well, you certainly want to do a few searches on this site, because many of your questions can be answered in great detail.

But here is my short version which may offer a little guidance:

1) Pokerchips.com get their chips from ASM (no multi edgespots)

2) I hear, and have not experienced personally, that Bluechip customer service is not the most organized or professional, and their chips (besides NJ's/martini's) have lackluster quality control.

3) T.R. king chips are nice and heavy, a little small in diameter, a little shiney (not in a bad way) , and the edges are some of the sharpest I have seen and NOT worn in any way.

Good luck to you, it is a decision that needs samples to satisfy concerns.

I've received new chips from Paul-Son (long time ago) and recently from both Blue Chip and TR King. They all have sharp edges when they are new. It's some of the stuff from China that comes with rounded edges.

You can get solid color chips from ASM, Blue Chip, or TR King for 50 cents or less, depending upon whether you want hot stamping or not, though I don't know if that's an option with TR King. Of those three manufacturers, TR King is the only one that has a 10gr chip, the others are in the 8-9gr neighborhood. If you have to have edge spots, be prepared to pay for them. Personally, I'd rather have a good quality solid color chip than to compromise with a limited budget and get garbage with edge spots.

Also, I don't think Blue Chip has any relationship to pokerchips.com or any other web site per se, just that some web retailers like Dice702 sell chips that are made by Blue Chip.

pokerchips.com is ASM. It is the online store for Atlantic Standard Molding.

I'm in on that tr king group buy. I also have a set of the casbah club chips and like them much more than I originally thought I would. I would have bought a set of ASM chips a long time ago if they would let me vary the edge spots.

I like that gold chip you linked to.

Bottom line, get samples and decide for yourself.

I am organizing the referenced group buy. Have a look (go to the last couple pages for decent mockups of the final color schemes):
