Annie Duke and ABC Primetime Live

Interesting coverage.... nothing spectacular. I forgot that she won the Tournament of Champions and was the only woman at the table to do so. Twas funny to hear Phil Hellmuth on record say that she didn't deserve to be at the table.

Now, that I think think about the Tournament of Champions was probably the world's highest paying Sit N' Go! And were they all freerolled into it or did they have a buy in?

Anyway, kinda nice to see poker on the primetime!

First of all, Phil was 100% right.
Second of all, I hope for your sake she didn't smile during this special.
*shudders* Those teeth. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But Phil did deserve to be? They don't have a Gus Hansen in there over Phil "all I do is bitch and moan"? I can think of at least 5 other poker plays I'd rather they had put in that game than Phil.

They had to have a woman, just like they had to have a little bitch. Phil was the later.

BTW, for someone that didn't deserve to be there, he sure got owned by her. It wasn't just a beat, it was a beating.

Phil Hellmuth has 9 WSOP bracelets. It IS the WSOP Tournament of Champions, not the "General Good Poker Players Tournament of Champions". How many bracelets does Gus have?

Jennifer Harman should have been there before Annie.

She was/is sick, I don't think she could have been.

Annie has a braclet as well.

To your point, yeah he does deserve to be there, he's such an ass I tend to forget what he has done, but Annie did as well to me.

I think Raymer and Annie were the two misfits from that show.
I mean, if they asked people like Dan Harrington and the like first and they declined, then I'm okay with it.

Maybe the next one can be Varkoni, Moneymaker, Fossilman, Fischman, Duke, Affleck and the Matador.

Laughing
Watch out for the Matador. He lures young bulls into the ring and takes them down! Buuwahahahaha! He wears a little too much makeup too. Shocked

Oh, geez. Don't forget, that tournament had nothing to do with determining the best poker player in the world and everything to do with creating a TV event. It wasn't intended to be the best poker players in the world, it was intended to be the highest-profile poker players in the world. Annie is the highest-profile woman in the poker world right now. That's why she was there.

And also don't forget that mainstream celebrity is something that's brand-new to these people. Hellmuth is being very smart by milking it for all it's worth. Nothing wrong with it. He's having the time of his life and making a shitload of money in the process.

a.k.a selling out? oh wait that's what poker's about

When Doyle put Phil in his place TWICE, ahhh. . .first for Phil taking his sweet time on every hand and second for Phil winning nine bracelets ALL in NLHE. I mean who's going to talk back to Doyle.

BTW, is anybody else sick of watching all-in hands and NOT these masters using some psychology and playing post-flop?

IMO, the real good poker isn't watching some guy making a good fold, (daniel folding to Lederer's raise on the club flush) or Chan getting sucked out by Hellmuth. Those plays don't highlight the many levels these people play at. SHOW ME THE BAD-ASS PLAYS!!

ESPN's hand selection has leaned towards entertainment than a showcase of talent. With next year's WSOP capping off at 6k players, the drop off in hand selection will be sigificant.

It's TV. Lowest common denominator and all that stuff. ESPN isn't the only one. They all do. The point isn't to show good poker. The point is to entertain the masses and keep viewership levels high.

Hellmuth understands that concept better than all of 'em.

The WSOP is not exclusively just the No Limit Hold'em event that many of you watch on T.V. It involves many different forms of poker and there is a WSOP bracelet and champion awarded for each event. She does have a bracelet just not in the "main event" aka the $10,000 buy-in NL event which crowns a “World Champion”. Phil Helmuth also won the “main event” in 1989 so he is a champion by definition although maybe not by character so he does classify. That said, besides Annie there were five others who have not won a “World Champion” title so why should she not be invited if she has the same credentials of the others?

It's also funny to see people calling others a sell-out just because they find fame and success (usually monetarily) in something. Good for him. I still can’t stand him though.

A real tournament of champions would include:
Johnny Chan, Chis Ferguson, Scotty Nguyen, Dan Harrington, Doyle Brunson, Tom McEvoy, Phil Helmuth and Moneymaker plus Raymer for the recent winners and dead money affect.

I agree but believe it or not, there are some people on this site who believe that she is "hot". Run a quick search and you'll see what I mean.

She is not hot...I mean she's ok looking but hot? Wow.

haha..yeah, that's a pretty bad one too. There was a really bad one of her at a tournament. I should have saved it. Admittedly, she does usually look better than that. But "hot" ?? Come on, people. . . .

Posted Fri Jan 28, 2005 4:50 pm GMT by arras
I think its easy to call her hot because shes a cool chick playing poker. That in itself is hot (paris hilton style). If you are strictly talking about looks, shes between decent and cute.

How much do they normally charge and should I ask how you know they are crack whores? lol

Posted Fri Jan 28, 2005 6:19 pm GMT by JohnnyCache
Because "Drug addicted whore" is a complete tautology.

The reason I think Annie Duke is hot is because she can service me and then tell me the correct way to play medium aces in the blinds.
