Hi all,
I'll be going to vegas in a month and plan on playing casino poker for the first time. Any one have suggestions as to which casino i should try out. I'm looking for a pretty low-limit game to start ($2-$4).
Also any advice on how people in vegas play these low limits (i'd imagine pretty loose, but would like to hear some 1st hand accounts).
Thanks all,

I don't know off strip what the usual limits are... I'd been looking for 1/2 tables myself out there and never found them. I play 1/2 hold em in los angeles and know where they are.
As far as 2/4 hold 'em, you have palace station, luxor, and palms. Some of the other station casinos might have em as well. You should call the pokerroom before you go and see what kinda tables are currently spread.
They spread 1-4-8-8 games in a lot of places, so read up on that type of hold 'em.
If you have a local casino in your area, play a few hours there. You should try to get a hang of the protocol and behaviors and what not. You don't wanna come across as a complete idiot (unless that's your intention)... e.g. don't throw your chips into the pot.
Depending on what time of the day you go and where you go, expect to see sharks and minnows at the table. I've been there and sat at tables with three people who'd never played poker ever before! If you sit down and you can't figure out who's the fool at your table after even two hands, well get up and go to craps table.
Take advantage of the free comps! Get your free beer but don't get too drunk! And expect to see a very cute cocktail waitress serve you! Have fun at it too!

I just came back from a trip to Vegas. I played at Luxor and Excalibur. I played the 25 dollar tournament in Luxor and faired well. I didnt finish in the money but probably could of if I used a touch more patience. I watched the table play here and it was rather fast for my taste.
The Exalibur on the other hand was nice. I played my first night there and was lucky enough to have a horrible loose player to my right. He must of bought 500 in chips. This was a two dollar table too! The pace of play was nice and the dealers very helpful to those in need. However, I lost a couple of big hands to two different local rocks. I noticed these guys there each of the three days I played. Oscar and Richard. The dealers knew them by name. The managers are really nice too. What I did not like though is the fact that the dealers would actually sit in on hands before/ after theire shifts. I would highly recommend checking it out if it is your first time playing in Vegas.

I just returned from L.V. If you don't like smoking and like plush rooms, try Mirage or Bellagio. I believe Mirage has one of the largest poker rooms. Both Mirage and Bellagio spread $4-$8 hold'em. They have $2-$4-$8-$8 hold'em at Mandalay Bay.

Hey all,
Thanks for the responses - I just got back from Vegas. I had a lot of fun in the poker rooms. I first tried the 1-4-8-8 game at the Monte Carlo and got beat badly. The table there was filled w/old timers who didn't drink and certainly couldn't spot any tells. I did a lot better the 2nd nite at Excalibur which was a $2-6 game. It was much more my speed. The table was mixed with a few drinkers and the guy on my right wore his tells on his face and hands. I even got wired aces w/a player who got wired kings, so I was paid off well on that hand.
Can't wait for my next trip.

General Sal, in your opinion what the best casino for a low buy-in no-limit game.
Thanks
