Some pics of my first table. I generally followed Junell's design so I won't post any construction photos. The 500 custom designed chips my girlfriend ordered from pokerchips.com for Christmas should be arriving any month now so I will post photos when they arrive.
The wood is regular exterior-grade ply, the red stuff is velveteen from JoAnn's over headliner foam also from JoAnn's, the cupholders are from Smackdogg.com, and the rail is 1" foam from Poker 'n Stuff wrapped with the stretchy kind of vinyl from JoAnn's. I took the folding legs and metal support rectangle from a 6" Staples folding table. The metal support really makes the table sturdy (and heavy!). To get the table to a reasonable height I had to saw 2" from the table legs.
I broke some of those thin wood paint stirring sticks and put them between the race track and the table base to get the playing surface flush with the race track. This works like a charm so long as you have bolts long enough to account for the extra height. As you can see, people had no problem sliding in all their chips when they went all-in.
I got all sorts of compliments on the sturdiness/comfort of the table, the niceness of the Kem cards and velveteen, and on how well the cards slid across the playing surface.
I have to thank Junell for the design ideas, and my amazing girlfriend for helping and actually suggesting that I could even make the darn thing at all.
Like the custom built Windows Media Center PC in the background?

Looks beautiful.
If you don't mind me asking, how much ballpark was the completed setup?

Nice job... making the playing surface flush with the track is also the way I'd try to design mine... if I can ever get the time to build it!
Thanks for posting,
Fins

My feeling is that the overall cost was about $350, though I haven't gone through receipts yet. I screwed up on a couple of things such as wrong size bolts, purchasing mineral spirits and paint thinner even though they apparently are the same thing, and getting a bunch of foam strips that I had planned on using for the rail before I bought the giant sheet from Poker 'n Stuff.
When/if I get around to it I may upload all the construction photos, but like I said, I followed Junell's design almost 100%.

Update on the table:
After about 5 or 6 poker nights and maybe 30 or 40 hours of play (already??? damn...) I have some thoughts about how it's holding up. Some good, some BAD.
Rail Foam: The foam is now kind of indented where the heavier guys have sat and leaned with their elbows. It's not horrible, but that nice clean flat padded rail look is now sort of curvy.
Headliner Foam under playing surface: No problems!
Wood racetrack: the cheap exterior grade plywood and 4 coats of poly has held up fine. Still feels a little sticky though.
Velveteen: Here's the problem area. The velveteen does shed a sort of mild fuzz after 10 hours of play. It will probably go away eventually, and it's not a big deal. The BIG deal is that the red velveteen STAINED EVERYTHING. It stained the cards and the dealer button. Not sure about the cheap plastic chips, but the cards and dealer button are now pink. My nice washable Kems are now PINK and won't wash clean.
This whole pink theme is just not what I am looking for, and thank god I have been using a set of cheap chips while waiting for my pokerchips.com order. It would have REALLY sucked to have my $500 chip set dyed pink. I just ordered a couple yards of suited green poker cloth and will be replacing the velveteen.
This pink issue might not me the same for all velvteen, but the kind I got from JoAnn's definitely was a bad idea.

Pink KEMs!! Dude, I really feel for you, I would be sick.
I made a similar table with JoAnn's Black velveteen. I have used it for 13 hours of tourneys and 7 hours of dealer's choice. I have noticed that it sheds but I use one of those mits to clean the lint off. After reading your post I ran to check my KEM Arrow wides. Luckily! I compared them against the jokers and they do NOT appear to be stained gray. Did anything get spilled on the top that could have caused the velveteen to bleed? Also, I wonder whether scotchguarding the velveteen would prevent any further staining?

The indents cant be avoided I would guess.
I think it looks awesome except I hate the cup holders. To me that invites trouble.
I would get up and leave my money right there if I dumped a drink on it.
Other than that from the looks its a really good job.

I've heard that this isn't a problem with the other colors. Just the red. And nothing spilled. Some a**hole rolled a cold unopened beer along the velveteen, but I don't think that one swath of potential moistness would stain both my decks and dealer button. Anyone else notice the staining?
When I put my kems next to the jokers they remind me of Valentine's day cards.

I think that red-dyed fabrics in general are a problem (ever wash your underwear with something red? You only make that mistake once! ).

I've linked to this twice already, but I said I'd post pics in this topic so I might as well at least include a link here.
