dal negro

Just curious about what everyone thinks of Dal Negro cards. I was thinking about buying some from pc.com because of the face designs and the price. They are available on a few sites around the web but I dont see too many people talking about them. I know they are more common in Europe, being that they are Italian made. Anyone have much experience with them?

Fiats were made in Italy and they were crap. Can't really judge something by where it was made.

Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati,
Ravioli, tortellini, monachotti,
Gucci, Versace, Giorgio Armani,
Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Masolino

It wasn't a terrible assumption now was it?

I can probably list a bunch of crappy Italian things but I won't. Don't judge a book by its cover.

Chill bro,

I was just jackin around when I said originally said it.

I am italian, so I guess this explains my antics.

I am currently looking for a set of the Torcello's on the web and
am having a hard time finding. Anyone know where I can buy some, so that I can give my thoughts on the cards?

According to the price list on pokerchips.com they sell the Torcello's. Here's a link to the page. About half way down, under "Plastic cards" you'll see them.

Got my first pack of Dal Negro's from pc.com. Their 100% PVC and my first impression is good. The’re thicker than Copag and even more so than Kems. PVC also seems to be a bit stiffer than vinyl or cellulous acetate; it feels more like paper. They have a matt finish and a good grippe feel. The print on the backs has very sharp lines and is good quality but the picture on pc.com indicates a softer or slightly blurred print which is what I was hoping for. As for the face they use nice muted colors. The royals are a traditional design but have a unique style. The joker is just outstanding, as well as the A Spade . Anyway, we'll see how they wear...

what card did you go with?
I see that they have Torcellos as a bulk buy, but didn't see them in the singe setups for sale.

Let us know how they break in

I bought the freedom decks. They got there first game tonight. 5 1/2 hours of play between two decks and they were great. I brought the new copags I have also and everyone just kept saying how much they loved the dal negro's. It seemed like it took two decks about a half hour to break in and after that they shuffled really smooth. As I mentioned before they feel more like paper than any other card I have tried and I still think so. They move a little slower across the felt so I felt I had more control over them and could throw them pretty much exactly where I wanted them. The cards also don’t have any tendency to fall out of the deck while shuffling, Kems seem to get away from me sometimes and I didn’t have any of that with these. Anyway, I will play with them exclusively for the next couple weeks and let you know if they show any negative ware.

could you repost the pics they dont work for me.

and is there any texture on the cards or are they completely smooth?

are they brige or wide size? regular or jumbo index?

last thing, do u know where i can find pics of the Torcello and Royal designs? is freedom the best choice?

I ordered a couple of double sets from the GP.

http://www.gamepreserve.com/store/item-detail2.cfm?ID=12046&storeid=1&nav=card

They are poker sized, reg index, double pip (so you can see your hole cards at any angle (lefties too).

There is a review of these and all the other cards on homepokertourney.com

I think he goes over some of the textures and stuff too.

I'll let you know what I think when they arrive and get played.

Let me know if you have any
problem seeing these. As far as the texture,
I tried to capture it in the pictures. There is
some but it’s subtle. The cards feel more
like paper than any other plastic card
I have and are a little thicker. I really like
Them.

Oh and these are wide size cards. You can probably tell from the pictures they are regular index. I can take more pictures if you want.

Your monitor could, of course, be effecting what you see but on mine the pictures are exactly the color of the actual cards. The backs are a bright red where as the faces (hearts, diamonds, and royals) are a deep, darker red.

Wow Eli,

I've been seeing alot of your photos lately,
and in addition to marine sniper,
is pokerphotojournalist also on your resume?

I could almost feel the texture of those cards with my eyes. Shocked

I read on the homepokertourney.com review that the "blood" red is a security feature, and is on the Freedoms but not the Torcello's.

Maybe an ignorant ? but why is that a security feature?

.

I'm in the Navy actually (nothing against jar heads). The camera I'm using is phenomenal and is probably responsible for most of the quality. It’s a Cannon EOS20D; it cost about $1500 and, unfortunately, it does not belong to me. I typically use a couple different older manual Minolta's for my personal photography. I dont even own a pocket digital so I had to borrow the Cannon. I have it for a few weeks though, if you would like to see some other views of anything I've already shot. Thank you for the compliment BTW.

That’s definitely interesting to me as well. If anyone knows what this is about please respond.

I don't want to speak too soon, since I haven't even played a game with them yet, but:

Thank god for Italians!

Got the Torcello's in the mail today. Feels like a good solid plastic card. I like them much more than the COPAG brand myself.

Eli, I see that you own both, which do you prefer?

Anyway, they look good, feel good. The colors are very crisp, and defined. I like the look of the Paint cards
Lets see how they hold up.

However, I am still an "arrow" person at heart.

Ok,

We played a few hours with the Torcello's.
At first they needed some breaking in, they were a little "chalky"

After a couple hours they felt great, very durable, and look great.
The dealer even commented that they were too "bright"

I like my cards bright.

Highly recommended for the price, $16 per setup.

Then again, lets see how they hold up over time.

Eli, where do you rate the Dal Negro's against the Copag's?

Sorry for the late response, work took me out of town for a few days. Anyway, I think copag is an excellent card but the Dal Negro's are #1 for me. I like the feel (texture, weight, thickness) and the look of the card better. I can’t say they are a better card than Copag because I haven’t had the DN's long enough to really be fair about it. As you said though, they feel very solid and as long as the graphics hold up and don’t fade too much I don’t see how you can beat them, particularly considering the price... Glad you like yours Toney!

To be fair I should also say that I have always had an affinity for the Italians and their style with virtually all things.

The darker color of the red is harder for a person next/behind you to see the suit of the card. Also if held up to the light, its harder to decipher!
