I think we have the new Champ of the Cheap Chips......
Posted Thu Feb 03, 2005 11:29 pm GMT by galderon
I like that they have no dots or dashes between edge spots. Most poker chips now are downright gaudy.
Posted Thu Feb 03, 2005 11:43 pm GMT by PinataUT
I really dislike the dots / diamonds on chips intending to look like clay.
These Nexgen 2s look nice. I wonder how compatible they are with the 8000 chips (stack height, etc.). /me eyes credit card...

Uhhh, I am a BIG fan of Nexgens but am I the only one that thinks these are FUGLY?!?! The edge spot colors clash and look like an after-thought. A little birdy told me these were coming but they are not what I thought. I was expecting paulson type edge spots, only in plastic.
I happen to be a fan of the diamonds on the sides, I used to hate it but I have seen some nice Bud Jones chips and the Nexgens do it well IMHO. I wont be getting a set of these, well, unless I need that white one for a Xmas set! YIKES!

gonna have to agree with you there ashVID. FUGLY they are!!
Posted Fri Feb 04, 2005 12:51 am GMT by Nugzy
I also think they are ugly. The edgespot colors are just....off.
Posted Fri Feb 04, 2005 1:45 am GMT by qheuie
i too think they are.. umm.. not the prettiest chips i have seen.
Posted Fri Feb 04, 2005 2:04 am GMT by PinataUT
I think that the orange is an improvement on the yellow, but that isn't saying much.
Purple is an improvement.
I'm not a big fan of either red.
Blue looks pretty good, but the original blue looked better.

ROFL... What were they thinking??? I vote fuuuu-gly.

Nexgen is going the wrong way here. they should try to model themselves after Bud Jones and NOT try to copy Paulson. i tink they can pull off a BJ clone. everyone and their mother will know instantly that these are not paulson. i would have bought the nexgens already, but the weight is to omuch for me. if they can get them to be between 9.5 and 10.5 grams then i will consider them , otherwise faget about it!

Wow these look alot better. the River poker chips and they are .20 each!
http://www.5stardeal.com/deals/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=10-8100

the yellow chip is fugly, should have used purple or black instead of gray. and they use yellow too much on the other edges, try to mix it up a bit with other colors. otherwise i think they look alot better than the 8200s. they are getting there though and i think i might actually buy them when the next model (8300?) comes out.

Seriously, the more I look at these the more confused I get. There is no consistency, pattern, etc. Most chips with multi-edge spots have either alternating color or two dabs of color on each spot. Some of these have 3 solid colors for 3 different edgespots! Some have 3, some have 4. It is seriously like someone asked for chips with multi colored edgespots and someone who had never seen a poker chip in their life came up with this.
White Chip - I will call the Xmas chip, a pciture of Santa Clause would look great in the middle
Red Chip -I will call the mint chocolate chip, for a pistachio mint green and brown edge spots... WTF?
Green Chip - I will call Brazil... has all the colors of the Brazilian flag
Blue chip - my favorite green is back... how bout white mint chocolate chip
Black chip - "God bless America... land that I love..." seriously, what in GAWDS GREEN EARTH!
Purple chip - uhh... wow...
Orange Chip - "we didnt start the fire... it was always burning since the world's been turning..." YUCK
Yellow chip - this puts the ASS is NASTY
If there is an uglier set of chips out there, I would like to see them...

If we could get the river type edgespots with better colors we would all be happy... who comes up with this stuff?
ash =o)

They also have some coin-inlay chips for CHEAP like under $0.15 each for people who are fans of those...

Like Ash said, they're FUGLY as all get out. I'm just staring at these bad boys trying to like them an it ain't happening. I can't even picture what colors to make a label for the inlay.
Now the River Tour ones are sharp as hell to my untrained eye....I may see 500 of those with custom labels in my future.

So they've updated the "Las Vegas" Nexgens and the "River Poker Tour" Nexgens.....
Does anyone know if they are updating the 13g "Casino" Nexgens?
Posted Fri Feb 04, 2005 9:28 am GMT by pie taster
AND ANOTHER THING...
Has anyone noticed that the "Las Vegas Nexgens" are more expensive than the "River Tour"?
What's up with that?
Posted Fri Feb 04, 2005 10:17 am GMT by PinataUT
RPT in original colors much lower quality than the 8000s.
I ordered samples of all the new ones in RPT and 8002 - they should come early next week.
I went through what I might use in a set, and I think I only wound up with ORANGE from the 8002.
The colors are a move in the right direction... now I just have to find out who the manufacturer is so we could help them design a better-looking set of 8000 Nexgens...

While the quad colored Nexgens are butt ugly, I can really see some potential mixing and matching of the RPTs, original Nexgens, and some of the 4 spot Nexgens to get a nice looking set. (presuming they kept the same dimensions.

There should be a disclaimer on this thread not to look at those chips if you're already feeling a little sick. I almost threw up.

i totally agree. i have some samples of the first run of nexgens and i think they are too heavy. if they were comparable to the chipcos or nj's for weight i would already have a set on the way
i suppose though that if they shaved some of the weight off they might sound more "metallic" like the 11.5g dice and such. maybe.

Ah ... I was wondering why you haven't been posting lately. Hope you feel better soon.
On another matter, that's a great deal you have on your eBay ads for Copags. Don't you feel odd being possibly the only person on eBay who does not gouge for 'handling' charges?

They're definitely on the right track. I like the idea of having the choice of three or four spots. I think, though, that I like the other chips better. The double spots look good. If they just didn't say "River Poker Tour" because I want to have my own fantasy casino name on a decal.

Yeah, it is kind of hard to envision the "South Side Casino - Chicago" (my current custom label) on the River Poker Tour, but give me a little time and I'm sure I can come up with a story that will fool my friends

I'm not sure I understand. The 10-8100
RPT and the 10-8000 are the same chip, they just have a different edge inscription. Why are they lower quality? and Lower quality compared to what?

I'm not sure if there has been a change in the Nexgen chips or if it is just the pictures. But the faux linen effect that is on the original Nexgen chips do not appear to be on the Series 2 chips. The surface on the Series 2 chips and on the new RPT chips look like a smooth surface around the chip. I guess we'll find out when someone actually gets their hands on these chips.

RPT all felt and all looked inferior to their 8000 brethren. Different and worse feel to the plastic, etc. Not everyone would agree, but I think that most people handling both sets would pick the 8000 over the RPT.
With the remake, I'm hoping they fixed some of those issues.
I grabbed 5 of each color in the RPT and 8002. I'd like to like them better. I've got my hopes up on the RPT...
Hey, Southside - isn't there a river of SOME SORT near Chicago?
Posted Fri Feb 04, 2005 9:17 pm GMT by ky70
That's it! The Chicago River....PinataUT, u are a genius my friend.
"Chicago River Casino" .....I think it has a ring to it

They are the exact same chip. Many places actually charge more for the RPT's, probably because of the "Chris Moneymaker endorsement"
BTW, thank you, you are very nice

I thought I remembered people urinating in something on St Patty's Day until it changed colors...

Are you sure the same manufacturer makes the Pro Clay "Casino" chips? It may seems so, since theese are the only two injection molded chips with real looking edgespots, but they sure do feel a lot different from one another.
The 13g Pro Clay feel more like clay, and stick together better. I like them much better than Nexgens, except they weigh so damn much and are a tad thicker (annoying).

I think the color is slightly off on the photos on 5stardeal's website.

Posted Sat Feb 05, 2005 7:40 pm GMT by PinataUT
If you have the other nexgens tossed in might help figure out what colors are being changed by monitor / camera combo...
Thanks for posting.
They look better in your pix.
I have 5 each headed my way from 5star

That pic is a little desaturated and washed out. Hey some people may love these, they just make no sense to me.... not just the colors, the whole style and lack of consistency.
