Thought I won 20k at casino tonight...

So I go to Canterbury to play some 6/12. The wait is supposed to be an hour, not seated for 2.5 hours. As I'm standing around I see a sign that talks about a new promotion where if you get quad 7's with pocket 7's in holdem you get $7777. I win some small pots at first and am pretty much even most of the night. I get 77 in the small blind and there are already 5 limpers so I just limp in. Flop is 778. I instantly think I have the $7777 but dont let it get in the way of playing the hand (I didnt want to get my hopes up). One off button bets, button raises I smooth call. The turn is a Queen so the board is 778Q, I checkraise and its down to heads up. River is an 8 for a board of 7788Q. I bet out, he raises, I reraise, this goes on for about 7 reraises. Everyone at the table including the dealer thinks we hit the bad beat jackpot (which would be quad 8s beating quad 7s). Finally the button just calls and flips over 89 for 88877. The whole table cant believe that he didnt have quads. I flip over my quads and take down the pretty big pot. I ask the dealer about the promotion right away and he didnt know about it, I ask him to call a floor manager over and the manager gets to the table and says he thinks it had started but he had to check with another guy. The other guy checks and says it starts on Monday the 7th. So I go from thinking I might have $7777 and the jackpot which was at 23k so I wouldve gotten 11.5k from jackpot and $7777 from the quad 7s to winning a $250 pot. Oh well, cant complain...

nice win Nate...could you have waited until 2/7 to show your hand? People get real excited out there w/ average cards. QQ, 88, Q9 all had him beat too.

Someone hit the quad 7s at about 1am last night. We knew right away that he hit the quad 7s and not the bad beat, because he was the only one screaming (screaming like a school girl I might add). $7,777 on a 2/4 table for a college kid is quite the payday.....hmmmmm $7777/$60= a whole bunch of kegs and panty dropping freshman girls.

Great to hear that someone else got it at the right time and I didnt Rolling Eyes . But anyways I had a question for you Dave, The wait for 6/12 has been pretty bad lately and the wait for 8/16 is usually not nearly as long. I know you've played quite a bit of both and I was just curious what the differences were?? Are there some better players?? Lately at 6/12 you seem to be outnumbered by chasers and idiots. I moved up to 6/12 to get away from a lot of the college and high school kids and now they seem to be taking over 6/12 (at least on the weekends).

8/16 is a bit scarey out there. It can be real tight during the day, but at night, you often get 3 to capped bets preflop over 1/2 of the hands w/ 4-7 callers. Pots run $200+ at times and their is a ton of action. Players are NOT any better-just more aggressive and willing to splash chips around. I saw many pots won w/ 97 when the 97 was the guy raising a raiser. Plan on having $600, but you can play tight and get away w/ $300-400 for several hours. Just make sure that you can stomach the swings of -+ $200-400 each 30-45 minutes. People play anything, so expect some bad beats and low str8s when you can possibly think that someone can be playing 85 for the 4-8 str8.

Classic hand last night, A10 suited for me, mid position w/ no callers, I raise to limit the field of chasers. Next players 3 bets, 2 more call, blinds call, I call. Flop K Diamond Q Diamond J Diamond , cool, flopped a broadway but need to dodge a diamond. I bet, all call, turn junk, river 10 Diamond, I check, 3 bettor bets, on caller, I fold. KK for a set vs 86 offsuit w/ 8 Diamond -he wins monster pot w/ 86 calling 3 bets cold.

LOL panty dropping freshman girls...once upon a time when Andy was a wee man of 17 he and his brother and his father bought a lotto ticket. They won....a lot..not millions but enough that they ended up with over a hundred K each.

Not old enough to buy a ticket but with a dad that stood by his word and gave the boys thier share, then sat and watched while Andy squandered it away on...hot cars and panty dropping girls. All of it, he spent the last of it on the pcikup truck which we still drive now that he is 30. His mother constantly reminds him that he is terrible with money and that he wasted his good fortune during his teens. As his present day wife I admit it would have been nice had he been more stingy. But having seen pictures of the cars and the girls...and seen the ghost of the smile that comes with talking about his teenage years....I seriously doubt that even now you could get him to admit that he wasted his money.

Sorry about the lack of poker chat in this..that line just made me think of what it would have been like to be 17-21 years old with that kind of disposable income at my fingertips (all works much better somehow if you are male in this fantasy

His brother..was 13 and not even old enough to know what that kind of money could buy..at 16 he invested his money..in a house. Eyebrows knitting....did I end up with the right brother or the wrong brother. The right one..for me...as long as he is staying out of my poker stack.

Brings a story to mind about a sportswriter in the 70's who was in a bar and spotted a fellow well passed his prime who had been the first pro boxer ever to make a million in prize money...an astounding feat at the time. It was the most money ever made in sports by one person.

Anyway he goes over to the guy and they chat a bit. Then the guy asks him if he'd spring for a drink. The writer sees that the guy's not too well off, so he buys and asks him "You didn't go through that million, did you? I mean that's an unbelievable amount of dough. You aren't broke are you?"

The old fighter just grins and says "Yep. It's gone. All of it."

The writer's amazed. "How in the hell? What did you do with it all?"

The guys says "Oh...I spent most of it on good whiskey and fast women...

I wasted the rest."

and 88 would put 5 8's on the board...

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 9:36 am GMT by Dave B
Board was Q8877, 88 would just be 4. I was wrong on Q9, meant Q8.

BTW-flopped at set of 7s @ about 1am last night....prayed for the 4th, missed the $7777. Too bad I was afraid to bet the set, dont want to see people fold before the river.

Online is fun but there is nothing like a casino environment. I love it. I can't believe I live 8 hours from the nearest one. When is this state going to legalize poker rooms? Sheesh.

I second that. I'm only 5-6 hours away, but that's still a haul. And, home games are fun, but they're no casino. Besides, I'm usually playing against my friends and people I know in home games. That doesn't stop me from taking their money, but for a split second I feel sorry for them. That never happens in a casino. Well, once there was a kid there for his 21st birthday and I took all of his chips on his second hand at the table. I kind of felt sorry for him. Especially when the guy sitting next to me looked at him and said "Welcome to adulthood. Get used to disappointment." However, the feeling was only fleeting. It dissipated very quickly when I started stacking his chips in front of me.
Yes, I'm heartless, I know.

A minute or two after that hand, I walked out of the poker room to have a smoke and that poor guy was standing there with one of his friends. He pointed at me in their discussion. Then his friend looked at him and said "It was a girl who took you out?!?!?" Something tells me he won't live that one down for some time. Poor guy.

Laughing Laughing Laughing When are men going to realize breasts don't inhibit the ability to play poker. You ladies have a definite advantage against a good majority of the male poker players. Laughing

The guy that runs www.wizardofodds.com says he registers on all the sites under a more feminine sounding handle for that exact reason.
