i was playing in a texas hold-em tournament style poker game. i went all in and one opposing player called. i had one chip more than him. i lost the hand, so i had one chip left. so my question is what i am suppose to do with that one chip? the small blind is $5 and big is $10.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

At any point, or when the big blind reaches you, you play, you can only win that $1 from each of the people in the pot with you tho, so a main pot and a side pot is created. Main pot = your $1 and anyone who is in the hand's $1, this is only pot you can win, and side pot is for the rest of the money, which you cannot win.

Why what did he say happens?
You're just out or something?
That's a load of crap.
I love the way people make up the rules to suit themselves

his argument was that i only had to pay one dollar to see the cards and he has to pay 10 dollars. He understands that i can only win one dollar from everyone that calls but he says that if i can do that then he should be able to chose to do the same even though he has enough chips to call the 10 dollars. I told him theres exceptions to everything. hes just stubborn. the more input i get on this the more reassurance i will have to help in proving him wrong. Thanks

HE'S WRONG! apparently your friend has never heard of a side-pot such as webby described which is exactly what happens in that situation. i hate guys who insist they are right with absolutely no facts and/or logic to back up their statements.

he's partially right.. if you were playing limit poker.. in no limit the dollar just goes into a side pot like already mentioned.. in limit poker it's kinda different.. say you were in a 5/10 game and you already paid to see the flop and you only had 1$ left.. now the bet is supposed to be 5$ but it's up to you and you bet your last $1 well everyone else has the option to call that or to raise another 5$ (to total 6$)..

the guy is not partially right. they were playing NL and the guy was trying to say he didn't have to call the amount of the big blind because the OP didn't due to lack of chips.

i know he said all that.. i'm just saying.. he had to get that idea from somewhere.. that's prob where he got it from.. i doubt he just came up with that from thin air.. i was giving this guy and argument to win over his stubborn friend..
