Best choices for table top coverings?

Posted Tue Feb 08, 2005 2:51 pm GMT by darrell
Was looking at buying a covering for my table. I know I want to stay away from felt and of course any of those cheesy ready-made ones seen in every department store nowadays. I am not to the point where i want to invest in a complete poker table until I can get a regular game going. But but i have a rectangular 72x30 table I picked up at Staples.

Does anyone have any experience with the nylon polyester fabric ones sold by pokercats?

They sell their cutomized sizes for about $65. They come with some padding underneath and the tops are washable, but I am not sure if the final look and feel will be good. Looking for something where the chips feel good when you place the stacks on the table - and maybe to impress my friends a little. My other choice would be to buy a velour type covering sold by some other vendor I have seen off ebay and maybe add some thin padding underneath.

I also have a smaller round kitchen table I was going to buy the same kind of thing for so I am probably looking at picking up two of these.

Thank you for the input.

MAKE YOUR OWN TOPPER!!!!

You can make it as cheap and as complex as you like.

If you want cheap, just buy some headliner foam from Joanns and some Faux Suede or Velveteen. Glue it on top of you table and you're done. You can do this for probably less than $40 (half that if you catch Joanns when they are running a sale). It will be better than anything you can buy at a store.

If you really wanted to do it up nice. Buy some 4x8 wood, cut a few ovals out and make a nice padded rail. And throw it on top of your banquet table.

check out http://www.homepokertourney.com/tables_build.htm for a lot of sites that will tell you how to do this.

Awesome site pie. thank you. Now that makes my eyes get real big and want to do it all myself. So much for the simple purchase for a game at my place next week. Maybe that can be my long-term dream table.
