New Nexgens - chip problems - now what?

Ok, I have a serious problem - I originally and have always had 300 diamond plain chips. When this whole poker thing got started a while back, I got 1200 Las Vegas pro clays for home tourneys I was hosting - great. The Nexgens came out. I thought "Damn, those would be sweet with labels" and got 500 with labels for cash games and told my wife I would never, ever buy another poker chip, ever. Never.

Now the new Nexgens are out - yes they are ugly, but some of the colors might work - and the new RPT ones are pretty cool in my humble opinion. I want to get rid of everything and get a set of the RPT's with custom labels - or, get some new Nexgens to fill out my 500 set and make that my tourney set?

I know this is more of a rant than a question, but - My Nexgens are 25 cents 50 cents $1 and $5. For cash and tourneys - I was thinking of filling in with like $2 and $3 chips and and adding $10 chips.

Is it insane having roughly 5 or 6 color chips on the table at 1 time even if they are easily, easily distinguishable?

Anyone else having this problem/mental health issue?

Obsessive poker chip rant -- yes most of us have the bug!

As far as having many denoms on the table at one time . . . I guess it's just personal preference.

I like fewer denominations in use at one time, like three, for example mostly $5, some $25 and a few $100 chips. (Substitute 25¢, 50¢, $1 -or- $500, $1,000, $5,000, depending on your buy-in or limits.)

I'd rather have a large stack of $1 chips instead of a smaller pile of $2-$3 chips.

But I've seen some games with 5-6 denoms on the table, and some people love to use their $2, $3 or $7 chips, or their $10 and $50 chips.

In the end, it doesn't matter to me. I'll take their money in whatever denomination!

If you're playing a limit cash game, you'll need $.25 chips for 25/25, 25/50, 50/$1, $1/2. You'll need $1 chips for $2/4 and 3/6. Unless you're playing 4/8 and 8/16, you probably don't need a $2 chip and would be better served using $5 and $25 chips just to consolidate chips. The $5 chips are what you would use for a 10/20 game, unless you're planning on a 20/40 game there's no reason for a $10 chip, and many card rooms use $5 chips for those tables anyway.

For a limit game, you would only need one color most of the time, two at the most. And generally for most other games, you probably won't want more than three colors on the table at any given time, it'll cut down on confusion.

P.S. I often play a 1-4-8-8 limit game at a B&M casino near here. Almost all the chips on the table are whites/singles ($1), with some reds/nickels ($5). Everbody uses singles for the $4 & $8 bets, or $16-$24-$32 raises/calls, with a few nickels thrown in now and then.

P.P.S. A recent NL tournament had 20-$5s, 28-$25s, and 2-$100s as the $1,000 starting amount (total 50 chips). Most of the $100s didn't get played except for All-In bets, or when it was down to 2-3 players.

Ditto...
For cash games... I'd only use three colors (poss. 4 w/ NL)
