I just received my order of Nexgens and I'm alittle surprised how slippery they are. I made the cardinal mistake of not ordering samples as I took all the reviews on this site and others to heart. I'm hopping that over time they are better. They do feel nice, (although slick as stated) sound good and the weight is fine as well. Just surprised about the slickness.
Is there any shortcut to get them to feel better as I don't want to spend weeks playing with 10 at a time. I first had some of the cheaper dice set and found them slick as well but I've been playing with 10 for the last 2 weeks and they finally have the rubbery feel to them.
Has anyone else found them very slick and if so did it go away?
As stated, is there any shortcut to get them feeling better quicker?

Honestly, I think they'll only get slicker with time and use, but not by much.

i have some samples if the nexgen and i thought they were a lot softer than my dice set. i don't have enough to do a stack test with them, but just by the feel i think they will make better stacks than the dice (get past 10 with the dice chips and they are sure to fall into a mess).
i think john from pokerchipreviews.com mentioned putting some chips in a pillow case and shaking them up. not sure if that's just to take off sharp edges or if it would help the surface. probably can't hurt those chips.
also, i recall others mentioning that putting the matte finish custom labels on helped with the slickness a bit.

I've had the opposite experience as Ten...my chips feel much better than when they first arrived. I believe Jason (the custom label maker) suggests tossing them around in a pillow case for a while. I think it's a good idea as mine definitely felt better the more I played around with them...I too was disappointed with how the Nexgen's initially felt but this is no longer the case. I wonder if some chips are shipped "fresher" than other because when I was doing my research on the Nexgen's b4 I bought them, I do not recall any comments about the chip feel changing after handling them....but then again my mind could be tricking me to think that the feel improved.
I'm waiting on samples of the new River Poker Tour designed Nexgens (and 1 color of the 8200 Nexgens) so I can compare the chips to how my current Nexgens feel. They should arrive today.

ky70, be sure to post your opinions on the new RPT and NExgen chips youre getting. I like the design of the RPT's.

I guess slickness is relative. My samples aren't as slick as some dice chips I have. Have you or are you planning on labeling them... I've read this helps the slickness a little bit.

Thanks for all the quick replies. Others are still welcome.
Yes I will be putting the labels on them. I've already ordered them and I expect I'll be getting them in a day or two at the most. Then it'll be the slow but rewarding process of putting the labels on.
I'm just surprised how slick they feel and when stacked will spill at the slightest touch compared to my cheaper dice set. As stated before though, i've been playing with the dice chips for some time and I imagine the oils from my hands have helped with the feel.
That being said, weight and sound are great. No problem with tricks and they look great.

As you can see from the picture in my Avatar, stacking is not an issue that I have....I have also seen a pic (can't remember which forum) of the nexgens stacked much, much higher than I even attempted.
Toss the puppies around in the pillow case and see what happens. Maybe just throw around 10 or so and see if that helps

has anyone else had a problem with 5star? i ordered some samples of the RPT nexgens and 10 acrylic racks for my current set on sunday and they just now shipped today even though i been calling all week and they always said "it will go out today"

FWIW I find Nextgens slicker than clay/ceramic, but much better than almost all other plastic chips I've encountered. I happen to have several clay, plastic, and Nextgens right here and the just muckin' about with 'em bears this out. The Nextgens I just got (labelled) stack decently. I can't go astronomically high, but than again so what. They're certainly not as nice as my Paulsons but they were only $.20/ea.

Your post made me peak at my e-mail and I got an e-mnail from 5 star saying my samples were just shiped yesterday (I ordered Friday). I'm betting the delay has something to do with the order of the odd lot of chips (as opposed to a prepackaged 50 count of chips). I've ordered from them in the past and the turnaroud was only 3 days at most (from Ohio to Chicago).

I'm not sure if it was because I'm in Canada but online it showed them having received my payment and my order didn't go for about 5 days after. Then it was about a week to reach me. (For other Canadians out there, beware the GST and Brokerage fee. It was an additional 60 cdn so 15 US lol)

They say orders can take 5 days to process or something like that.
I gave them a nudge yesterday and my order shook loose. Might be a coincidence. Samples arrive tomorrow.

hey ky,
maybe one of their order fillers went on vacation or something. anyways its very odd. ive had good experiences in the past with them.

That does sound odd, as everytime I've made an order with them, they've shipped it out of their warehouse the following day. I've always found them to be pretty reliable. Maybe they've dumped a lot of their warehouse people after Christmas. Though I was in the middle of an order the other day when I found that my cart had suddenly been emptied. I placed the articles in my cart again, and a few minutes later they were gone again, then they re appeared with a reduced quantity. No doubt they had been removed from a system admin level to fulfill another order, as the quantities that I wanted were no longer available.

I ordered 500 of these without checking out a sample. I don't know how you think they are slick unless you got a lot that was waaayy different from mine or have never played with dice chips. Dice stack maybe 5-6 high. Bump em and you are done. I have a stack of Nexgens here in front of me 20 chips high and I'm banging the table and... nothing.
I will say that they are slicker than say... my set of Las Vegas Pro Clays... but really, they are not slick in my mind. Regardless, for like 20 cents each, you can't go wrong.

It's not that I'm saying they are supper slick. Just that they are not the rubbery feel chip I was lead to believe. I have a set of the dice from Costco and they were really slick to start. After some playing time they feel better. I mark it up to oil on hands and dirt. Either way, they have a somewhat rubber like feel to them now. I can stack 50 easy. Anyways this wasn't supposed to be a positive for the dice because there are much better alternatives out there for not much more. I'm really hopping the Nexgens are one of them. Hopefully once the labels are on and playing with them will get them to the point of deserving all the hype. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I used to have dice chips, they stacked 40 high easily. Why everyone keep saying 5-10??
Posted Wed Feb 09, 2005 9:24 pm GMT by macanator
I don't find any problems stacking the dice. They got better the longer I played with them.
With the Nexgens, I can't even put 10 in the palm of my hand without the stack sliding off and them spilling everywhere. I'm still playing with just 25 for the past 6 hours and I hope the oils/dirt/whatever on my hands sticky them up some.

There are different types of dice chips, some are incredibly slippery, some arent so bad. Thats why you see so many differing opinions on them. As far as Nexgens I ordered 40 of them to sample them and they are slicker than I was hoping, but I believe they will get better over time. I can also easily stack the 40 on my table and move the try to knock them over without touching the chips and the stack is pretty stable. I think lables will also help though.

Spilling Stacks: Saw macanator's post about stacks spilling. Am wondering if he somehow ended up with the 11.5g "Las Vegas Nevada USA" chips. They look just like the NexGen with edge spots and recessed center but don't have the texture around the rim and are the hard ABS plastic. I've got about 15 NexGens via various sample packs and they stack wonderfully.
NexGen Wearability: My NexGen samples seem fragile. That is they scratch easily and the edge seams where the two surfaces join on some of the chips seem like they want to split (but none have). Has anybody who's had some of these for a while noticed any scratching or splitting in normal use? I had to deliberately scratch my sample but all it took was a thumbnail and not too much pressure.
NexGen Color Combinations: One responder in this thread asked about two or three color combinations. The televised tournaments only use two or three colors and home games with a five color set just became confusing. If I get rid of my 11.5's in favor of the NexGens I'll want just three colors but can't visualize a good color combination. I like having 5's 25's and 100's in the game and the traditional colors are Red, Green, and Black. The Red/Green predominant mix looks a lot like a Christmas program. Any experience out there?
Thanks, all.

Uhh... this is starting to make me wonder about the consistency with Nexgens. The only thing I noticed when I got mine what that the red chips seemed a little slicker than the rest but after a couple games, that solved itself. Mine dont get damaged by anything. My friend who has the exact set as me even shook his like CRAZY forever WITH the labels on and they came out unscathed. I dont find them slick at all and I can stack them 150 high. I have stacks of 25+ in games sometimes and never had a stack fall over.
Also, why do people keep referring to clay chips as "soft" or rubbery. That is like calling a brick soft IMHO. They have a great "warm" feel and great texture but the clay chips I have owned (including an old set of Paulsons) were anything but "soft"

There are 2 types of Nevada Las Vegas Chips?
I ordered from 5 star and it was model number 8000. They say Nexgen but I'm series that they are not much better than my dice set so far and If anyone were told hold these and not think they were slick I would ask to see employee ID from manufacturer.

It's not so much about "how many" you can stack, but really how well do stacks stay vertical in real games? When players stack in 20-25 at a tourney, and one guy bumps the table, stacks fall. If you brush a stack of dice chips with your sleeve, they fall.

Correct, there is a difference between a stack you can look at and a stack you can play with. I can get the Nexgens 150+ high but they would fall over in a game. If you can stack a chip 25 high and have it solid, that is all you need.

I want you to make a movie and post it showing you can stack those plastic dice chips 50 high. Then touch the table see what happens. When I had them they fell after 15 high and Im Italian Puerto rican and thats alot of oil on my hands.

It's okay to shake up the Nexgen's in a pillow case (IMO). I received an additional 100 last night (to be used for color ups in my tourney) and I shook the puppies up in a plastic bag and they came out of it fine. You may get a small scrape or two, but just be sure to shake em up b4 u add your labels. Jason (the custom label gentleman) also mentioned that he shook his Nexgen's up in a pillow case.
