Nexgen vs. Faux Clay Dice |

For those who have tested both the Nexgen and the 10g Faux Clay chips, can you tell me the main differences and which type you prefer to play with.
Obviously, I already know the difference in weight, appearance and price.
Thanks in advance!

The 10 grammers aren't nearly as slick as the NexGens and the sound produced by the 10 grammers is scary close to a real Casino Paulson chip.

So would it be safe to say, if I wanted as close to authentic casino feel as possible, I should go with the Faux Clay rather than the Nexgens?
Oh yeah, my budget is under $125 for a set of 500.

for $125 you can almost get 2000 faux clay

I love the faux clay chips for the price. But since someone mentioned the neophytes, they're my favorite of the plastic chips. I found some on acehighsupply.com for .27/chip. It's about half the price of the neophytes on buypokerchips.com and it doesn't have the ugly "poker" wheat decal. I'll probably get some of my own decals made. Yeah, that's it. I'll get my own made.

ncskiier, do those have a recessed center?

I can't tell. But I know that the neophytes are decaled. I just want to do something different and not go with the nexgens. Plus I think they feel and sound much better than the nexgens and aren't nearly as slick.

The BPC.com Neophytes are silk-screened as far as their logo goes. It's not a sticker. I'm also about 99% sure they do NOT have a recessed center. I'm at the office so I can't confirm that right now.
Cheers,
John

Are the Nexgens and the Faux Clays made of similar material on the surface? I notice that on my nexgen samples, i can easily scratch off the colors on the outer rim of the chip (the crosshatched part). Just wondering how easy the Faux Clays mark up. Thanks.

The 10 grammers are made of harder stuff than the Nexgens. That said...you can still scratch them with your fingernail if you work at is, although not nearly as easily as the NexGen.

Thanks John.
I think I will go ahead and order some faux clay chips. $45 seems like a good deal for 500 chips plus a silver case.

Well, when I drove up to the house today, there was the UPS driver getting out of the truck with 28lbs of faux dice chips. These things are unreal and they look much better in person. If you were to close your eyes and play with a stack of these you would never know they weren’t clay. They feel more organic than most of the clay chips I have. They sound -exactly- like the Casino De Isthmus City chips. Slightly bigger around than ASM chips but still fit nicely in the chip racks. The great texture of these makes it a little more difficult to shuffle them than some of the clays but, then again all the clays I have are quite worn in and the Faux Dice feel as though they will ware in nicely after a bit of use. Anyway, hop someone is interested.

Thanks for the info! How many chips did you purchase? What colors did you choose and how do the colors look compared to the 5stardeal website?

I bought 1000... As for the color, I have a new monitor and its pretty accurate, that’s one variable in the equation but I would say the real chips are -slightly- darker and they are a little more dull/chalky looking. But all in all I would say the pictures are very, very accurate. Actually when I said in the other post that they look better in person I was thinking of the picture on pokerchipreviews.com.

Ive had a set of 650 since Thanksgiving. These chips feel and sound great. They dont have a recessed center but will hold a label. The label doesnt fit great; it is actually just a little bigger than the center of the chip, but I got my sample chips to stick and look just fine.
These chips will shuffle just fine. After a break-in period, I can shuffle these chips just as easily as any other chip.
The black chip is the best looking, because its the only chip without a white injection spot. Thats not a big deal, but on one side of every chip, there is a little injection spot. The black chip has a black spot and isnt noticable.
After watching some recent poker tourney on TV (Phil Ivey AA busts John Juanda AT) I can live without edge spots. Whatever casino held the tourney, used chips without edge spots and it looked OK. Espically the stack Ivey had toward the end.

I believe that was the Turning Stone casino for anyone who cares..I also have chips without edge spots, they are TR King, and can live without them even though my perfect set would have multi-colored edge spots.
