This is what happened to me last night.

After the first 10 hands or so, I was down considerably. After that I played pretty tight for a bit and won some small pots, and eventually was a little over even. I was dealt 5's, I was big blind and I called another player's raise. Flop came K-10-8. He raised maybe 60% of his chips, (I had more than him) and I thought about this for a second. He was staring me down alot, and he is the type of player who will tend to bluff alot. I thought for a long while, and decided to call. Turn was a 5! He went all in, I immediately called. We flopped he had Aces back. River was J, and I took the pot. Ended up quadrupling my buy-in, and I've been on a bad streek lately so It helped. I guess this was some luck on my part, but do you think you might have done the same?

No way would I have called that on the flop unless 60% of his chips is significantly smaller than the pot. That call is straight out of the 'how to be a fish' book. Do not call players because they might be bluffing.

Unless you considered his stare down a reliable tell (which it wasn't, obviously..)

That 60% of his chips had better have been small compared to your stack for this to be a good move. You gambled and it paid off.

Nice hit, but had this been the other way around you know you'd have been posting a bad beat story. Wink
