I'm still waiting on my RPT samples to arrive (hopefully tonight)...how do RPTs feel compared to the 8000/8002 Nexgen's? I recall comments about the RPTs having a "slicker" feel because they don't have the cross hatched <??> pattern of the 8000/8002

The RPT chips actually stack better and arent as slick as the nexgen 8000 and 8002's. I only got 2 of each of the RPT's so I cant judge that well but they seem to stick together a little bit better. The RPT's also feel better when you shuffle them.

I can second that Nate.....the RPT stack and stick....kinda hard to shuffle. I like the RPT chips alot....wish they had them out before I bought 2000 NexGens.

Where did you get your samples from? The new RPT's are killing me... I got to get some...

I got them from 5stardeal.

I've been pushing my samples around for a day or so and I have determined the following:
For the purpose of this excercise, all chips used for observation were "new" chips received as samples. The Nexgen's 8000/8002 are simply a better chip than the RPT chips (for my tastes). I think they (8000/8002) have a noticably better feel and are more "solid" feeling than the RPT chips. Unlike the others, I think the RPTs are more slippery than the 8000/8002. I have tried to like the RPTs better but it just ain't happening...I have decided that I will probably just re-up on the original Nexgens (8000) for another 500 as I do not like the look/colors of the 8002 Nexgen's (except for the orange).
P.S. Just for kicks, I handed the 8000 and RPTs to my wife and asked her what she thought (withoout telling her my opinion) and she replied that the RPTs don't feel right to her...so she confirmed my opinions.
My Conclusion is that the RPTs are still better than the usual 11.5 gram chip, but IMO are not as good as the other Nexgen's

I like the RPT's feel better. The textured feel of the 8000 just feels cheap to me and they still feel too slick. I still like the look of the 8000's over the RPT line.

The more I examine the new RPTs the worse I feel about them. The edge spots seem to be made of a cheaper plastic material than the 8000/8002 edge spots and I notice the edgespots are peeling on some of my RPT samples. Anyone else notice anything similar?

I'm set with my chip set but I also ordered samples of both to see what I thought. I noticed the same thing as ky70 on the RPT samples. They seemed really cheap with the edge spots and like I could rip the edge spots out. I definately like the feel of the new Nexgen's way better and I think that the Nexgens stack better and are less slick. Just my opinion.

I went online to 5-Star and ordered 90 of the RPT chips--10 of each color with 20 ea of green and red. I wanted to see them stacked and have enough of them to really get a feel for them. I wanted a three-color set with a small-bet color, large-bet color, and a few of a third color to 'color up' the other chips. Plus, the televised tournys all use just two or three colors.
First, as most of you know, the white, red, and blue are the original colors in RPT and only have one edge spot color w/ diamonds in between spots. The green, purple, black, and yellow have two-color edge spots with no diamonds.
On all, the weight was fine. The extra 0.5g over the 11.5g chips makes a difference, at least in a stack of five. Definitely better to handle. 'Slickness' was OK to me. I liked the Las Vegas NexGens a little better on this but just played at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and their chips were much slicker than these and very hard.
Here's the big problem: The green and purple chips were really ragged looking. That is, the edges looked shoddy and the white edgespots on the greens had a lot of what looked like metal part rubbing marks on them. On the purples, especially, there were marks on the 'corner edges' of the chips. These coatings take a mark easily with a thumbnail and the purples seemed to have been really banged around. This resulted in light marring along these edge 'corners' on a lot of the chips.
I also saw, just on the purple and green, the same ragged edge spot edges reported by other posters. Looked like they were about to peel apart, though a little prying with my thumbnail didn't raise any.
The center seam between the surfaces on all four of the newer colors was visible and makes these chips look much more plasticy than even the 11.5g chips.
The black and yellow colors were very nice (except for the seam) and look great stacked together. If I could find one more color made to the same quality I'd buy a set of these, but the green and purple are just too poor to contemplate and the blue/red/white have different edge spots. Plus, the four newer colors (black, yellow, green, purple) are more subdued tones (which I like a lot) than the three older colors (blue, red, white) which are brighter. I'd called 5-Star to ask if they would be producing a revised version of the three original colors and was told no, but I do notice that they are offering auctions of 650-chip sets of the original colors at a discounted price, so maybe they're clearing them out.
Unfortunately, the blue/red/white combination just flat sucks visibly. I'd never liked the listing pics on the online auctions of this set but ordered 40 of them to look and I just don't like them. My wife has a Ph.D. in Art Education and could probably explain the color theory behind why these don't look good together but I just know that I don't like them. Ugh.
Visibly the green, yellow, black mix is OK but the green chips are out. I like the color of the Las Vegas NexGen red but--different chip.
I like the overall colors of the LV NexGens but I'd not wanted to be stuck with "Las Vegas" on the chips as I live a continent away and we do have a river--we could have been the Banana River stop on the RPT. I didn't order similar sample quantities of the LV chips (just two of each) as I'd thought I'd be going with the RPTs until the samples actually arrived. On the colors, while some 3-color mixes are not great (blue/red/white) there are are some that are fine (yellow/black/ and either green, purple, or red).
I think I'll stick with my 1,200-chip set of 11.5g chips for now and see what else comes down the line that will take a 1" label.
I'm getting obsessed with this.
