I've read in a post a while back that people are spraying their chips/labels with some sort of protective spray. I can't seem to find that post again. What are you using for this? Where can I find it? Does it have any effect on the play of the chip? Does it make them slippery? Does it discolor them in any way?

"Surething office labeler program to make the chip labels using a template from onlinelabels.com. That program works great but I highley recommend you use the bleed function or you end up wasting a lot of labels."
Label designers/suppliers:Jason's auctions and here's Lynbark's site.
Krylon protective spray.
Mfr's Krylon Matte Link - might call Call 1-800-4KRYLON for local dealers.
From Lynbark..."We like Krylon's Preserve It. The Preserve It is tough to find locally and should run less than $5 for a can that will handle several thousand labels. There are several matte fixatives that work great on computer printed paper. Use one coat with a a slow, side to side sweeping motion about 1 foot from paper. Go off the edge of the paper each time to avoid staying in 1 spot for too long. We simply use a stapler to hit each sheet a couple times and then spray them (don't do it indoors or in a small garage without some ventilation).
It takes about 15 minutes to do a set of 1000 and should be allowed to dry for about a day after application. It will give your chips a "chemical" odor for a while. You may want to allow them to air for several hours before applying and stacking.
The glossy spray adds a very bright, sheen that may actually be distracting from the design when held at an angle in bright light. You also have to be much more careful as the glossy will run and cause "drips" if oversprayed. You should use lighter coats with the glossy (simply move a little quicker side to side), and maybe add an extra coat. The glossy will make the labels a bit thicker than the matte spray and takes a little more patience to apply. Glossy vs matte is ultimately a personal preference as to which looks better with your chips, and possibly your design you've chosen.
The matte spray adds a nice rough texture along with much better resistance to moisture and scratches than simply going with a plain paper."

CiN0s3 comments... "I wouldnt reccomend using Avery labels. I take it these are the ones not on an 8x11 sheet. These are meant to peel off easy and do not use an ooze free glue and they are meant to be written on not printed on. If you spray them with the Krylon Matte stuff I can all but guarentee you will ruin them. Better off returning those and getting the right ones from onlinelabels.com"

Thanks for all the info Fins. Anyone know if Joanns or Walmart stocks this stuff? Any other big chains that anyone knows of?

I haven't seen it at walmart yet, gonna check Joanns myself tomorrow. It is listed on their website so I'm optimistic. Hard to find...

You can use the Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear spray from WalMart. It comes in Glossy, Satin, or Matte. I tried spraying labels with all three, expecting to use the Matte, since so many seemed to like it here. As it turned out I preferred the Satin. It's an acrylic, so it shouldn't yellow, though it will change the shade neutrally just a tad (you can see if you use masking tape on the corner of the sheet to hold it up while spraying). Just a word of caution, if you're spraying paper labels, be aware that the paper is going to be thristy and you may need a couple of extra coats. On laser printed vinyl it seems to work very well, I accidentally scraped a couple of labels with my thumbnail getting them off the backing sheet and there wasn't any sign of damage.
Our graphic artists at work have used Crystal Clear for years on inkjet printed (big inkjet) mockups of boxes. It costs less than $3 a can (so it's cheap if you want to experiment before deciding on a finish.

What the heck is the story here? It looks like the same thing you get from http://www.worldlabel.com/pages/wl-ol1025.htm but with a huge markup.

I just listed sources I've run across... no investigation on my part. Jason has since mentioned "Anyone who pays those prices for blank sheets at mmapoker should have their stomach gouged out with a spoon and left for dead! I get my labels from www.onlinelabels.com they have the best prices."

Yeah. "Guaranteed!" my ass. What a couple of father/son pimps. Can't wait until someone writes a browser plugin that lets you see feedback on the site you're looking at. The trick would be doing it in a way that couldn't be abused.

It's whatever people will pay for them. There was a guy locally that was selling the plain paper label ($18.95/100) at $1.99 a sheet. If it's any consolation, the glossy labels go for $38.95 (laser) and $49.95 (inkjet) per 100 sheets. Look at what he's selling dice chips for. He may not get a lot of business, but when he hooks one he's going to make money.

Am I confused or something? ...well, yes, but that's beside the point
Why on earth is he selling dice chips and labeling supplies together? If you sold labels, would you be recommending that people label their dice chips so they can rub together and look like crap.

The answer is obvious ... repeat business
A couple of our local stores do the same thing. They even display samples of the labeled chips with centers that are flush with the chip. You'd think that people who are able to visit a retail establishment to handle and examine the product before purchasing would know better.
I guess PT Barnum was right.
