Ok not my first casino but the first time I intend to play cards at a casino.
I feel..kinda..sick.
Online I am very chatty and fairly confident and such but in real life I am uber shy. Just the thought of sitting down at a table is starting to make me feel a bit queasy. Not to worried about my game, but I am worried about me period. Havent played anything live in years...not poker, and I doubt bridge counts. Also...I dont know but I feel odd about the thought of playing at a casino as a woman...does that make any sense? When I started playing with family I got a lot of hassle about being female and playing poker, and that was with friends and family, this is a table of strangers. I am kinda weirded out if there are no other women playing..about sitting down at a table full of strange men. Nervous they will strong arm me and that I will let them because maybe part of me feels it isnt my place to be sitting at a poker table in public.
Am I being stupid..or should I just go and play some stupid chick game..or worse yet...play slots *shiver*.

Yarr, aye wench, truly, 'tis a curse, at sea or the gamin' table...
OK no more pirate humor. I like playing in casinos, it's nice having a dealer, just let them run the game as is their job (well, keep an eye on things of course, mistakes are made) and you'll be fine. Also maybe pick a table where people seem to be having fun. Usually a point is made to be nice to new players so you might go so far as saying something about it being your first time in a casino.
I see a lot of women where I play, well not a lot maybe, but one or two at the table usually. I've never seen it be a issue.

don't worry, although I've never been on a live casino table before, i think you will do well, women will always have an advantage at a poker table. Partly because they are a woman, and second, i find woman being extremely lucky in gambling. Lost a lot of final tables to women... they always get lucky on me and knock me out, and till this day, I've never been first in any tournament with 500 or more players in it.
Closest was 2nd in a 1300+ tourney... And who beat me...? A woman. had a huge chip lead heads up, all in preflop I had AQ against 9Js, floped 2 pair, she hits flush on turn. and from then on it went downhill....

Hi, Tulli, been a while...
Good luck today. I have a couple tips. First, brace yourself for playing at the lowest limit table at the casino, because that's where you'll probably start. You can make money there, but it isn't easy. Too many idiots, too many river beats, way too many of the kind of things that make YOU crazy. (And ME, too.)
I recently had AA cracked by a guy who called 3 bets cold with J4 offsuit and flopped J44. I was mystified how anyone with a with a double digit IQ could make that call.
Key tips: tell the dealer you are new, they will be very helpful. Tip them when you win (1 dollar/hand is PLENTY). Make sure you say RAISE loud enough to be heard BEFORE every raise (this prevents accidental string bets). ALWAYS use the same tone of voice and same body mechanics when raising.
Key tip for beginners: look at your hand ONLY once, or many times, but always do this the same way EVERY hand. I can put a new player infallibly on a pair if he constantly peeks, but suddenly looks once and never again. Of course, when the 3rd spade turns and he checks his cards, I know he wants to see if his king or ace is a spade. On-line players are notorious for not bothering to memorize their cards.
Do not muck your hand if you are heads up and calling on the end. Always turn your cards face up unless the OTHER player has definately mucked. I have seen many players muck winners, looking for a straight and missing the fact that when they missed, they hit trips (just happened to me...but I flipped them up and said "I missed"--and won!)
To make sure you are not mucking your hand when the other player seems to have folded, push your cards to the dealer, face down, slowly, with the TIP on top of the cards.
Okay, last thing. Women have a reputation of NEVER bluffing, and this is usually true. You may find yourself in a hand, say a flush draw that missed on the river, where you have absolutely nothing, but everyone checks to you. At this point, the only chance of winning is a bluff. Try at least one. You might be pleasantly surprised IF your opponent is a GOOD player (and he also missed his draw).

At the casino I play at everyone is always friendly, especially to women. The people there are only there to have a good time, just be friendly and they will be friendly. There are usually a fair amount of women at the casino, the guys are used to playing cards with women, dont worry about it.
