ok... i was in a b&m tournament this saturday... there were about 30 people entered and the top 3 were in the money.. i beat my first round table and made it to the final table.. it was a no limit tourney and there were 6 of us at the final table and it was just starting so everyone had pretty much the same chip stack (about 8000 in chips) and the blinds were at 100-200.. just a bit of back first.. normally at a new table i sit back and wait for premium hands and just play straightforward.. i like my table image to be a tight agressive straightforeward player.. once i have that image i start changing gears and get to steal more than my fare share of pots.. to get this image if i get foldouts where i had top pair or two pair i usually turn one or two hands over... (just to let them have a bit more information)... well early into the table i was getting a rush of good cards and in about 6-10 hands into it i already had that image pretty much down.. (got about 3 foldouts in a row).. now i'm on the button and i get Q-Jo.. i raise for a standard 3xBB.. to make it 600 to go, blinds folded and i got two callers... flop came Q-J-5 rainbow.. now the two other guys in this pot i put them on pretty much any wheel cards or premium hands (to short into table to know more exactly).. i don't put them on KK, QQ, AA, JJ.. cause i figure they'd have raised before it got to me or they'd have reraised me preflop.. anyways.. i bet out 3000 (i got excited and accidentally overbet the pot) with the two pair.. next guy folds and the other calls... turn comes up K.. now this worries me a little so i move all-in knowing that if i double up now i'll have the rest table in trouble (they weren't necessarily strong players and i was confident i'd get the better of them).. he quickly calls and show A-Qo.. i open my hand and no one even looks concerned by the two pair.. river comes up 10.. and he made his straight... this beat leaves me with about 400 in chips so now i'm pretty much crippled so i just wait until i get two wheel cards and move in.. needless to say i get Q-Jo.. and move in.. with callers and raises it gets to heads up and there's about 2000 in the pot.. he shows Qx-9d... board catches 4 diamonds and i'm officially out of the tournament..
my question is did i play this hand correctly or weas i getting over agressive too fast and should've just checked the rest of the hand after the call on the flop?

I think you did yourself in with your bet after the flop. You committed yourself to the hand by betting 3k and then had to see it till the end. I think you betting was right after that, you needed to try and buy the pot and defend your initial move. Yes he go lucky on the river to bail him out but he did have the better starting hand. He was really taking a risk by calling your bet with only a top pair so I don't blame yourself too much(he flat out go lucky on the river).
I think if you had just raised a standard 3XBB after the flop and then slowed down after you saw the king. You could call/check the rest of the hand and not have short stacked yourself and you could have even folded if he raised you.

i see what you mean.. cause even without hein sight i would've folded that two pair very fast with Q-J-x-K-10 on the board... but i got myself pot commited after the flop... i just didn't want him to draw that straight cause i knew he didn't already have it.. he couldn't have called a 3k bet with A-10...

Brilliant play. Overbetting that pot had TT or AK written all over it.
Frankly I'm a little surprised the guy checked AQ on that flop. He's still an idiot-- there's no way in hell he can call that turn bet.
I really like the play though. He had 7 outs and got lucky, it happens.

thanks alot for your feedback... i felt i played that hand correctly but it was just eating away at me since that pot was pretty much a make or break situation (i felt confident that had i doubled up there i'd have finished at least top three of the tourney and in the money)... and i was really just looking for a bit of support from other players... i think the worst part of the whole beat though was that this guy sincerely looked like he didn't even know where he was.. two other people had to help him count out and stack his chips so we could figure out how much i had left..

Sounds like you played it correctly.
BTW, "wheel cards" are the cards your use to make the wheel straight of A-5. I think you mean "broadway cards" to make the broadway A-T straight.

oh!... i just always learnt that face cards and aces were considered wheel cards... i didn't know why they were called that i was just always told so... i guess it's true.. you learn something every day...
