$500 bucks! .. Hmmm.. i have some nice dice chips I'd sell you for half that!

Seriously..

I'd highly recommend making your own.. I'd follow the advice from these two threads..

I have a full folding table from this same company that cost about $250 and it works very well and hasn't showed any signs of weakness after using it for about 2 months. The one you posted has a price tag that is WAY too high. You could get a nice full table shipped to your door for a little bit more.

Also, awhile back on this forum someone posted a very nice looking table but I don't remember who or what brand it was. Try running a search at the top or maybe someone will post who remembers.

I'm probably going to just buy some 1/4" foam and get a felt-like table-cloth for my table (or maybe real felt in the shape of a table-cloth. Then maybe later create the padding thing as per many of the build-your-own pages, but keep it separate so I can just lay it on the table when needed.

This is one of the better build-your-own pages I've seen:

that was the other option i considered, ive heard of these felt 'tablecoths' that have elastic around the edge so it stays under the table. combine that with some 1/4 inch foam, instant cheap table whenever you need it, put it on top of a banquette table

Why not just get a pice of plywood, cut off the ends so it shapes an oval, put some foam on it, stape the cloth down, and screw it to the banquet table? Very easy to do and you have a nice sturdy table. Get another piece of wood and u can build a rail. 375 is a terrible price for just a table top. Id sell you one of my used tables (with rail) for around that shipped.

i want a removable table top, so the banquette table can still be used for other things, all i really want is padded felt so you dont hear the sound of the chips bangning against the wood table, and you only hear the sound of the chips against each other. so i really think im just gonna buy some 1/4 or 1/2 inch foam, and a felt table cloth and set it up on the table whenever im gonna have a game...

These sites can answer any questions concerning making a poker table/top.

www.scottkeen.com - The mecca of poker table building experience.

www.pcpotato.com/poker

www.homepokertourney.com

You should be able to build a quality table for about 100-150 dollars. I have built my own http://hachkc.home.sprynet.com but I also have a folding table from Dunhams that is actually pretty good for about $200 . Well, if you are inclined to do so I would really just suggest you build a table. You were going to spend $350 for a top. You can build an -outstanding- table for about $50-$100 less. I just built mine and I used some of the most expensive high quality 21oz billiard felt plus very nice vinyl for the rail and it was about $250. Anyway, you asked about foam and felt so here are some good links... If you want specific info on building a table pm me... It took me about 7-8 hours to build with a friend. All you need are the materials for the table it self, a jig saw, staple gun, drill and a razorblade. THAT IS IT... Honestly I have high standards and would say most of the tables you see on howtobuildapokertable type sites don’t look too good. Mine looks really nice and it took less time than the average work day.

Read the Temporary Table link on www.homepokertourney.com and check out http://www.pcpotato.com/pokertable1.htm. He shows building the table top and mounting it to a banquet table.

If you search through these sites as well as www.scottkeen.com you will find everything you need. The homepokertourney site is probably the best intro place to start but scott keen's site is far more detailed and informative./url

Good luck.

Oh yeah, also, check out www.DIYForum.org/table this is an exceptional resource for building a nice table. I modified some of the techniques shown there but for the most part it is right on.

I built a pretty nice topper with the same requirements as you: portability/storability. With that in mind, I bought a 3/4" sheet of ply at Home depot and had it ripped first 44"X96" and then cut into 3 pieces 28"x44". 2 of the pieces I rounded off with 22" radius arc. Imagine these 3 pieces layed side by side would make a traditional 44"x84" oval table. I used 'dowel joining' technique to make a joint on the edges. I lay this whole assembly on my banquet table, and cover it with a piece of headliner foam cut to size. Add fabric of choice on top like a table cloth and secure. I actually hemmed a seam with 'witcher tape' which is iron on hemming tape and ran a thin cord through the hem and added a cord stop to the ends. I can pull it tight like the waistband of sweatpants over the table. This works great, assembles in a few minutes and stores compactly under the bed/behind the desk/etc.

I've been meaning to post some photos, maybe soon...

I just made my own table pad using automobile headliner material (a foam-backed knit fabric) and some nice green cotton velveteen (do NOT use common felt, which pills and sheds), both of which I got at Jo-Ann's Fabrics for about $45 total (Wal-Mart may be cheaper).
I cut the headliner to the size of my dining room table, then cut the velveteen a bit larger. I covered the headliner with the velveteen, folded the edges over and used spray adhesive to stick the edges to the reverse (foam) side. The whole pad ends up being about 1/4" thick, and card/chip handling qualities are quite good. The foam is grippy enough to prevent the pad from sliding around, but maybe you could figure a way to put an elastic border to snug it down even more (probably would require some sewing, blech).
I think my pad beats all of those "Texas Holdem" table toppers because they all seem to use low-quality common felt. Velveteen is the way to go.
