Paulson Chip Sample Pics

Posted Tue Feb 22, 2005 9:12 pm GMT by Deakon
Here is the sample I got today; much better than they look on the site. Inlay still isn't that great, but the chip is very nice. If the mods would like me to make em smaller, let me know and I will do so.

These actually look better now the more I see them. These photos (not great photography but THANK YOU) make the chips look better than those early sample photos from a month or so ago.

Do you feel that they are well made, vs Blue Chip?

p.s. Deakon, I feel bad for dissing your photo skills. Smile The first photo is wonderful, I wanted to let you know that.

*** The first chance anyone gets to show photos of these new Paulsons stacked, let me know! With only the samples stacked together, there are so many colors it looks like a bowl of Froot Loops! I want to see some stacks of these! Smile

(even if it's a link to a retail site)

Nice colors and all, but kinda goofy looking with the tiny little label.
The bark was bigger than the bite.

I got 1000 paulson home chips today from Dice 702 (400--$25 300--$100 200--$500 100--$1000) + ordered 10 more $1000 to make $250,000 in chips. I mostly play tourneys but can play green as quarter.. black as dollar purple as 5.00 and orange as 10.00 if need be. I also have 1400 wpt chips as reserve.

They are cool!! MUCH better in person than the original pics (I was a tad worried)...good weight and feel and SOUND...wow!! Need to be broken in to shuffle easier I assume (new squared edges--not round?)

I recommend, but I am a noob, but dare I say am hard to please quality wise. These meet and exceed my expectations

At the very least check these out before paying insane prices for the old Paulsons on ebay

I wish I had a digital cam (wife lost hers...ill see if i can borrow if no one else posts) and I could accomodate you tenpercenter! They are cool stacked :D

I don't doubt that the colors and the feel are nice. BUT like its been said before. That label looks ridiculous with that mold.

Posted Tue Feb 22, 2005 10:36 pm GMT by Deakon
Sorry for the photos, the lighting wasn't too good when I took them and because of the glossy inlay, the flash would have made it even worse. Have to take better pictures in the morning and repost them.

Ten: They feel as good as any off-the-felt Paulson I have ever handled. Very good quality.

Posted Tue Feb 22, 2005 10:37 pm GMT by trogdoraoeu
Wow, those do look much nicer than the dice picture. From the side it appears the inlay isn't very deep, so the space around the sticker isn't nearly as noticeable. I have samples on the way but I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering 500.

Posted Tue Feb 22, 2005 11:09 pm GMT by trogdoraoeu
Someone with a camera must have gotten some of these in. Pictures, Pictures!!

Posted Tue Feb 22, 2005 11:13 pm GMT by circlencircle
Mine will be here tomorrow... I'll stack up all 500 in various positions and take some pictures if someone else doesn’t in the mean time.

Posted Tue Feb 22, 2005 11:16 pm GMT by Fat Tony
if the label wasn't stupidly small, i'd buy some. the small label kills it for me, although i MAY order some samples just to be sure.

Posted Tue Feb 22, 2005 11:18 pm GMT by JHile31
those are some bright colored chips for brand new, judging by the brightness of the colors i would think those chips have been handled quite a bit...maybe its just me though. still not a big fan of the small inlay.... Confused

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 1:56 am GMT by Mr. Meaner
I think they look better everytime I see them. I am going to get some for my cash games. Will probably have some custom Chipco chips for sale soon.

Based on a high rez post by MSPastton on 2+2 you may be right. His are chalky and faded (normal for fresh clays). But I bet Deakon cleaned his up and handled them a bit before taking photos.

Ten is right on the money. I couldn't wait to get them all nice and shiny, lol. These chips are really growing on me. Not too sure about the brightness of the 1000 chip, but probably wouldn't need them any way. This is a real toss up between these and the ones yet to come out with the other inlay. I really like the denomintations of these, what to do, what to do, lol.

Did you oil them or anything?

LMAO!!

Sucks that the Trademark inlay is small like that too.

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 1:01 pm GMT by JigaWatts
Here is a pic of my new Paulson chips. The feel and sound awesome. After 5 or 10 minutes of shuffling they break in nicely. I was a little worried about them after reading some of the forums, but once they arrived all my worries subsided.

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 1:14 pm GMT by slowplayray
Those look great stacked up. I love the colors on the $100 - they're the same as the Gambler's Pleasure were, right?

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 1:15 pm GMT by Nugzy
Thanks for that pic Jiga, I been wanting to see them stacked. The more I look at them, the less the small inlays bother me. They dont look that bad. Im definately picking up a set.

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 1:21 pm GMT by trogdoraoeu
Wow, I'm sold.

Yeah, I couldn't wait 3 months for custom chips from pc.com. I'm very happy with these new Paulson's. I wish they had the Hat and Cane all the way around, but I guess I can live with it.

What's the deal with using baby oil to break them in a little? Should I do that or just wait until my next game?

I can't freakin wait to play with them!!!

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 2:33 pm GMT by circlencircle
heres a few more pics.. I took more but my camera is set to the lowest res and they are still to big... No one will host them. I'll see what i can do though. You can click on the image to enlarge.

The $100 chip looks KILLER. Love the colors!!

Very cool chips indeed, I really want to see what the trademark chips will look like in person first.

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 3:14 pm GMT by circlencircle
ok here they are again... plus a few extras most
are without flash in natural light but a couple I used
a flash so you could see the difference. Oh and
again, click on the image and you can get a better
view. I think once it goes to the image host you can
click it agian to really zoom in. Hope everyone likes
em. I think they were worth every penny.

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 3:43 pm GMT by circlencircle
Again, hope everyone likes the pics. I know there are a lot being posted but I tried to really take some quality pictures.. I have to say these are in there own realm compared to the other chips I have. They sound completely different. The definitely have softness about the feel and the sounds. There is not "clink" in them AT ALL. It’s a soft click. They feel slightly chalky, very dry, and all edges (molding/corners) is very sharp. The inlay is absolutely glass smooth and you can not tell where it starts or stops. The edge spots.. Well the pictures speak for them selves. I would say my pictures are very accurate as far as color but if anything the real chips are more vivid. I don’t have a scale but I suspect in the high 9g range (obviously Pokerchipreviews with cover this)... Anyway just wanted to give my impression.

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 5:35 pm GMT by yeltzen
I still fail to see what makes these so much better than the TH&C version that they can charge 1.25 a chip for them, unless there are a lot of people out there with a strong urge to give Paulson free advertising. I personally liked how each denomination had a different number of edgespots. I think they could have done that with these to make them really unique... instead they went the cookie cutter route.

Not saying they look bad. Aside from the small label, they look awesome. But for $1+/chip, you'd think they'd do something that looked more one-of-a-kind.

Well they're not $1.25, even if you figure with shipping mine where $586/500=$1.17ea. Its $1.10 if you dont figure shipping into it. There are other chips of much lesser quality that cost more... Whats the problem? Clay chips are all around a buck so whats +/- 10cents...

Circle, the pictures you took are beautiful. I just want to say thanks because I really appreciate the efforts you took in taking them with such detail.

I had my doubts originally, but your pics showed how great they look stacked up with the edge spots. If anything, I would want to get some samples. It's true that it is a bit overpriced, but I just think there's nothing like the feel and sound of a Paulson chip, even though these have the crappy "PAULSON CHIPS" lettering mold. The dealers selling these chips probably underwent lots of hassle and expense in getting these chips to the home market, so I think that effort is priced in the premium we're paying for the chips. Retail is retail - Paulson needs to get paid, and dice702/apachepokerchips need to get paid.

Thank you Led, I really did spend quite a bet of time to try and get them right so anyone who was interested in buying them would really know what they looked like. I just wish everyone was able feel them, I think that would change a lot of minds...

Long time lurker of the site... Read many great posts and picked up alot from this site. Anyway finally decided to join the party and post Wink

I like almost everybody else on this site hated the inlay of the new Paulson Bonds. However, I have to say GET SAMPLES!!! They look great and feel incredible in your hands. The pics from dice702 do not do this chip any justice. Now I am in no way a chip pro, but I do have samples of the Grand Islands, NJ Clays, and NJ Martini Clubs and these IMHO blow those chips away. Great pics posted earlier on this thread, but get the samples in your hand!

Anyway I just placed my 500 chip order with dice702.
Happy shuffling :D

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 10:10 pm GMT by Prettey Toney
Got some samples as well.

The inlay is akward.

It isn't as bad on the darker chips such as the blue $1 and the black $100 but it really stands out on the $.50 white and REALLY stands out on the bright $1,000.

Not too crazy about the green $25 chip.

They are very high quality and even though each inlay is small, they are all perfectly clear and centered.

Like paulsonchipsreviews says though, I don't like the very slick inlay.

I'll put them up against my custom TR's when those come in.

Also the sound and weight is good (blows away a blue chip (unfair matchup)), but not even close to those old foil stamped chips from the Elks.

Posted Wed Feb 23, 2005 10:22 pm GMT by TheNuts
Prettey Toney raises a good point.... However for me I didn't order the $0.50 or $1000 chip as I would have no use for those denominations.

Also one additional thought on the trademark Paulsons, the white $1 chip was a big issue for me personally. After shuffling my Bond samples several times, the $0.50 white chip has already gotten dirty and is showing some coloring from the other colored chips. Just my 2 cents though.....

I like the standard inlay on the chips I just wish the chips mold was the standard mold. They still look much better than the blue chips though. IMHO.

Hello everyone, I've been a guest reader here for a while. Anyone thinking of getting a group buy together for a custom grand or full inlay on the new pauslon chips? If not, I am going to wait and see what the trademark inlay looks like first befoe I buy a 1,000 chip set.

Posted Thu Feb 24, 2005 10:42 am GMT by Nugzy
thecentral, the Trademark inlay will be just like the Dice702 inlay. Look at the pictures on trademark's website.

Posted Thu Feb 24, 2005 10:44 am GMT by tbecentral
Do you mean that it will be the same as in the size of the inlay?

Posted Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:23 am GMT by Nugzy
Yes, the inlay will be the same size as the Dice702 chips. I dont know why they did that, but the more I look at them, the more I get used to them.

Posted Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:29 am GMT by Mr. Meaner
Can anyone confirm that Trademark and Apache Paulson will all be the James Bond chips. Why would Trademark show a different set of mockups than Apache. It would make sense that if Trademark was the main supplier to apache that trademark would have there JB Chips in stock as well. Has anyone called Trademark to verify?

Posted Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:40 am GMT by Nugzy
Trademark will have the chips shown on their site. Not the same as Dice702. The INLAY will be the same SIZE as the Dice702 chips.

Posted Thu Feb 24, 2005 11:48 am GMT by Mr. Meaner
Nugzy, thanks for the reply and you are correct. I just spoke with a Trademark poker rep who is in the know. TM is the official distribututor of the new Paulson Home chips that much is true. Apache bought at least 100,000 chips through trademark and did his own custom replica of the James Bond Chips through Trademark. TM will still have there own version of the new home paulson chips as shown on the mockups on there website. The bad news is trademark had some problems with the artwork and the release date is now pushed back even farther than stated.

You would have to buy at least a 100,000 chips to get the price in the .70cent range according to the gentleman I spoke with. I assume 5000 chips at .92 is going to be the best price any of us will see.

thanks though!

I wasn't a fan of the inlay at first, but after having gotten used to it I have to say the only chip that looks nearly as good in that picture is the horse-head (strange to say). I've already ordered mine, but if anyone comes up with a group buy with a new label I may be open to getting more. If anyone can talk them into doing scalloped inlays I'll definately buy some.

Turns out that my review J.B. Paulsons have been sitting on the receiving dock at the office since Tuesday AM. Love my co-workers. Got my first look at these things this evening and *damn* they are nice. They are absolutely heavier than the original sample set of Paulsons I got a few weeks ago. Review will be up on Friday.

I would use pure mineral oil. I didn't have any on-hand, but I used baby oil. It's just mineral oil with fragrance. My chips smell little like my baby now, but so does everything else around my house. Smile

Anyone have opinions on this? I wonder if it's safe to soak them, evevn long term. I just coated mine for a few hours and rubbed with terry cloth. They are brighter and no longer chalky, but are still hard and sharp.

I just used a paper towel with TR King chips, it'll work fine. Use very sparingly though, you just need to get the paper towel or rag coated so that it's oily, not soaked with the oil. The process can take a few hours for 500 chips and if you're using paper towels, you may want to change towels after each color as there might be a little color transfer (from that chalky stuff). Before you do this though, take a look at the chips and play with them a little to see if you're happy with the feel as they come out of the box. With use, oil from people's hands will have the same effect on them ... especially if you happen to serve chicken wings at your games Smile .

I don't think any of the compression molded chips are intended to be soaked in any liquid. Smile

DO NOT SUBMERGE THEM IN ANY LIQUID! (Especially water and even mineral oil.)

Use just a little bit of mineral oil...a tiny, tiny bit will go a long way. Don't use a brush or anything to slather in on. Use the tip of your finger or a few drops on a towel.

Don't stack them before they're dry, set them on paper towels flat, and let them dry for a day. They'll be a little sticky, but they'll feel normal after you've played with them a bit.

Don't use lemon oil or anything else, just regular mineral oil. You can get pint can of mineral oil at Home Depot or Lowe's for just a few bucks. That will be enough to do tens of thousands of chips.

I prefer to let the oils from human fingers get "the finish", but that takes several tournaments to finally get the right sheen. Mineral oil works great too, but the chips are smelly and very *slightly* sticky for a while. Eventually that goes away, though.

Posted Fri Feb 25, 2005 6:38 pm GMT by mkultra
I'll just break mine in the natural way...I love them and am not going to mess them up by rushing a naturally occuring process...they don't use mineral oil in casinos after all do they?

Posted Fri Feb 25, 2005 8:14 pm GMT by pokerchipreviews
Easiest way I've found (since I'm photographing chips all the time) is just to put a little mineral oil on your hands and then rub the chips one at a time. Takes a few seconds per chip (3 or 4 seconds) and then wash your hands when you're done and go back with a nice clean towel and wipe them all off. Works great and very fast.

Cheers,
John

What is the official price of these chips going to be. Is the apache price going to be the best price around. I was looking into 1000, which at apache is .99. Is there going to be a better price? I know we are looking into a group buy, which no one really knows what the price is going to be on those either. Great looking chips though...amazing colors...
