No one cares, I know, but I figured I'd post it anyways.
Did you know that participating in a poker forum can help you improve your own game? Be it by sharing experiences or simply asking for help, participation in a forum helps you focus and keep 'on topic' which will help you improve your game. You can learn from other players feedback and from their experiences. Why the THP poker forums? We offer one of the best managed texas holdem poker forums available, and the community within is far more friendly than those typicaly found on other sites. We've made a 'lurkers edition' of the poker forum available here on Holdem Poker Online, but we encourage all visitors to register and join in on the conversations on TexasHoldem-Poker.com

Unfortunately, I only have a stupid little webcam, but here ya go... pic #2 gives you the best representation of the color:
Basically, these are the same base chip as the Nevada Jacks "Dead Man" chips (side by side in the last 3 pics). Same sound, same weight, same feel, same texture. All good things. Except for the black $100 chips, the colors on the Desert Sands are all a little more pastel than the Dead Man chips, which are bolder. All of the color combination for these chips look very nice, and the blue $1 chips look 10 times better than they do in the pic provided on the web site (much brighter - the pic on the site makes them look a dark blue).
The texture on the top of the chip feels rough, like sandpaper, which lets you stack them pretty high without much movement. They still slide nicely when you want to splash the pot with them. The bonus on these chips, though, is that the rough texture doesn't affect the graphics. They're very clear looking. The Dead Man chips look a little blurry when you hold them really close up since the graphic is very detailed. The graphic on the Desert Sands is fairly simple, so it looks clear even close up.
They need broken in a tad at first, but then they shuffle great. Nice sound to them, no metallic *clink* like with ChipCos. The sound is crisper than a clay chip. If you muffled the sound on these, they would sound like a clay chip.
I think the design is just great. I prefer the Dead Man design (I'm weird), but these have a much more casino-like look to them where the Dead Man chips have an old-west, specialty tournament look to them. The little "NJ" diamonds around the edge of the face look very cool and add to the mock clay look. I do like the edge spots a lot. I was puzzled by them when I first saw the design online, but they look really cool stacked (especially on the blue and green chips).
I've had the Dead Man chips for about 6 months now, used them in many, many games, and there is no wear whatsoever on them, so I expect these chips to do the same. The only knock I have is that on a couple of them (maybe 1 out of 100?) there is a pimple that is a little more noticeable than I'd like. But, in general, you really have to look for the pimple to find it.
Overall a really nice chip. Definitely the best design out there on a ceramic chip in terms of looking like a casino chip.

If they've gotten the edge spots to line up on the Desert Sands, I would've gotten a set long ago.

Do any ceramic chips have edge spots that line up? That's one reason I like the Dead Man chips better is because the edge spots have nothing to line up with. But I'm not sure that I've seen any ceramic chip like that.

No...no one has figured out how to get the spots to consistantly line up. It's a bummer.
Cheers,
John

I'm positive they could do it if they wanted to, but they'd have to do each chip individually. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Only Bourgogne et Grasset (“B&G”) ceramics do. The rest need to ask them how to do it. (yeah right)

Unfortunately, they have that white ring around the edge, so it still doesn't look right.
