All-In B4 Flop

Posted Sat Feb 26, 2005 3:03 pm GMT by airmcnair8888
I was watching the World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel located in Reno Nevada...

It had 6 poker players including TJ Cloutier....

eventually it came down to 3 players...

I was noticing that if someone was dealt a poket pair or A Club K Diamond or even one time with A Heart A Spade or other good hands they would go All-in before the flop knowing that there was only 2 others to possible call.

the other players would usually fold

Sure most of the time it was the small stack that went all-in but wouldnt you think that they would try to get more out of their hands then the blinds.

Anyone watch this show who can better understand what im trying to say?

You mayt be the biggest dumbass in the world. If u knew nething about poker than you would know that the best time to go all in is pre-flop Surprised

By going in then your opponent is more likley to call b/c he dosnt no where he stands at that point unlike whn there is community cards already on the board, and it is more temptin to call Wink

Good Question airmcnair8888, Im new topoker but I think I have a good understanding of poker. They go all in with those hands because most likly they have the best chance of winning, they will take risk like that to get far ahead of they do win..

Just muy 2 cents.

Plus, at that period of time in a tournament (final table, final three players) the blinds are probably quite substantial. And worth stealing.

I know that when I play in tournaments (online and live) I tend to use that move a lot in order to steal the blinds...a lot of the time, guys afraid of busting out and won't call you with something sub-par. A-K, A-A, and K-K shorthanded like that means you probably have the best of it, at that moment....
Seeing a flop could put someone on a flush/straight draw and suck out on your PP...

Anyways, cheers!!!!

That was uncalled for.

They do it usually when the stack sizes are such that if they get raised, they'll have to call. So if the blinds are 10000/20000, and your stack is 100,000, a standard raise would be to 60,000. If you make the standard raise and I reraise you all in, what are you going to do? Fold for 40,000 more when the pot is 200,000 and I could have a lot of different hands? No, you'll call. But your lower first raise means that I can choose to call and see the flop relatively cheaply. Then if it hits me, I can take the rest of your money, or if it doesn't hit me, I can save 40,000.

Going all in preflop forces your opponents to make that decision before they know whether the flop will help them or not.

And just winning the blinds is pretty significant in this situation. You'll end up with 130,000, increasing your stack by 30%.

Correction dumb a*se the best time to go all-in is when you’re confident you have the best hand and the reduced game information pre-flop allows you to gauge this quite accurately.

The guy might also have been wondering if it was more profitable to slow play good hole cards when short handed so don’t jump on him because you think his question is foolish when you didn’t even give it some thought.
