Which poker chips to get??

Posted Sun Feb 27, 2005 8:00 am GMT by mckee27
Which poker chips do you prefer:

1) Jackpot Casino chips
2) Jackpot Coin Center
3) 4 Aces Poker Chips
4) Fan Of Cards Chips
5) Chipco "Classic" Set

These all came from this site, not that I have to buy them from here:

I know 4 and 5 are much more money, so if your first choice is 4 or 5, please choose another one between 1, 2 and 3.

Thanks a lot for your help.
Scott

Well, 4 and 5 are not only more expensive, they are higher quality. 1 and 3 I'm pretty sure are the same chip just with different designs so it would only be a matter of which you like better and whether you want a composite chip or more of a true casino quality chip. The coin inlay is my least favorite but if you like that sort of thing go for it. For me it’s really only between the fan of cards and the chipco because these are both more casino quality grade. As far as looks, neither is a knock your socks of deal IMHO. Chipco is a ceramic chip and are exactly what many casinos use, definitely nice to have. The fan of cards are Bluechip clays and are moderate quality clay but still much better than 1, 2, and IMO 3. Personally I would go with the fan of cards unless you already have a set of true clay chips, then I would chose the Chipco's for variety.

Sounds like you dont really want to spend the money on 4 or 5, and if that is the case, why list htem? as someone already mentioned they are a much better chip, hence the higher price.

If you have an inclination towards 1 or 2 and can't make up your mind, you could always make a matching combination set out of the two chips. Both of them are a bit thinner than either 4 or 5 (both are casino grade home chips from Blue Chip), though they are somewhat uniform in size. 3 is a bit thicker and is more in the realm of a first generation import from China. The 1 chips have a metal slug that will respond to a magnet, the 2 chips with the coin center do not. In the case of both 1 and 2, they are thin enough so that you can put 21 chips into a stack in a standard chip rack with a little wiggle room.

Insofar as the Jackpot Casino in Las Vegas is concerned, it has been defunct for over a quarter century now, but you can see some of their original chips at http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/lasvegs/jackpot.htm

#5 first and then #1 for the less expensive.

I have a full set of these samples (#1) from a different vendor. The review will be going up within a week or so. There is already a review for #2 on the site, and they are less than great. #3 is just not good at all, IMHO.

If you can wait a few days, I'm going to have a new Plastic Chip section on the site with quite a few good quality chips. Might be helpfull.

Cheers,
John
