bad beat? lucky draw? ... does it matter?

So I'm in a 10 seat SNG last night... by playing my typical game (fairly tight) I believe I have earned some respect with my raises.

We are down to 4 and I'm low stack... not that low, but still in 4th.

I'm first to act and I have A5o. I pot raise (I think the blinds at this point are 50/100). Next guy folds... SB raises and BB folds.

Now I'm thinking that he thinks I'm just trying to steal the blinds and my options are either to fold or go all-in. With a low kicker like a 5 I would rather not see a flop.

So I go all-in and he calls. The cards turn over and he has A4o. I sigh relief....

Then the flop comes 4A4.... Crying

and then there were 3 and none of them was me...

Um, I believe A5 vs. A4 is actually going to be a split pot more than a totally won pot most of the time. So you shouldn't have REALLY been expecting to take it down, but no doubt it's a beat.

you speak the truth, as always... Smile

I think it's just the overkill of the 4A4 on the flop that just decimated me out of the tourney...

Yeah, I see what you are saying. It's just so insulting that a hand that is weaker, or the same as yours can just massacre you like that. Tough break.

I saw a hand a bit like that the other day (should have been a split) - final table in a multi table tourney and there is a raise a reraise an all in and a call. Both players have loads more chips than anyone else on the table so you have to think one of them has AA and the other has KK.

Anyway, they both roll AA so there is presumably a sigh of relief from both of them and the smallest stacks (including me) curse their luck because they expected to move up a place in the money. Anyway, I'm sure you now how it ends - one guy hits the flush to take the other guy out. Now that is not just a tough beat that is an absolute killer. I think it is the only time I have seen AA beat AA - for that matter the only time I have ever seen a pair beat the same pair.
