OK, so I took the plunge and purchases a set of 1000 Nexgen Las Vegas 8000 Series Chips.
On to my question.
We play mostly 5-8 player Holdem' (Pot Limit and No Limit) for 5 dollar buy-in. Players are able to buy in more often if they please, but it is most often less than once per player per session.
Here is what I got in terms of quantity, and what I was thinking about putting on the denoms. I know it's not the traditional "White=1" methodology, but I am curious what everyone thinks of it. Also looking for reccomendations on how I can make the denoms on the Lybark Labels better for the purpose... which is to deliver 5 bucks worth of chips when someone buys in. (Think Nickel, Dime, Quarter...and an occasional 20 dollar buy in game)
WHITE - 300 - 5c
RED - 250 - 10c
BLUE - 200 - 25c
GREEN - 100 - $1
BLACK - 50 - $5
YELLOW - 50 - $10
PURPLE - 50 - $20
Any suggestions for modifications before Lynbark goes to print?

Also, sorry to reply to myself, but in the process of my research (here and elsewhere) I noticed someone had some Labels printed that were similar to the ChipCo "Classics." I love this chips, and wanted to do something similar with the lower denominations I have above. Any pics of how yours turned out, if you still frequent the forum?

Quite honestly, for 5-8 people and a $5-20 buy-in, you have far too many denominations. I'd think you should only need 5¢, 25¢, and $1 for most of your games, and it's not likely the $1 chips are going to come into play with a $5 buy-in, and not often with the $20 buy-in. And had you purchased a 500 piece set with nothing but the 5¢/25¢/$1 in a 200/200/100 or 250/200/50 ratio, it would have been more than enough to cover most of your games. Most of the time, you shouldn't have much of a need for more than two denominations on the table, and if you're playing a limit game, you can probably do quite well with a single denomination (the card rooms seem to manage quite well with a single denomination for most limit games )

Good feedback overall, and I agree, the higher denom chips will be used very, very rarely.
I purchased a 1000 because I...
1) Didn't want to have to buy more Nexgen chips, ever. Also, wanted the 1000 chip case, as opposed to having to carry 2 (500s) if I do ever host a larger, multi-table game.
I thought having the higher denomination chips would make it more versitile. Also like the idea of having at least 50 of every chip, just, because I guess. Can color people up to free up lower denoms, etc. Also really liked the chips on the higher end.
Maybe I should refine my question...
Would you guys consider it "poker chip blasphemy" to make the whites nickels, as opposed to dollars, etc. Or the blues, dimes instead of 2's, etc.
Curious if anyone out there has a "Z-game" set similar to what I am talking about?

I bought nexgens, they just arrived this week.
I find it more blasphemous to have 10c and $10 chips than to have the colors wrong. A chipset with fewer denoms but more of them is more versatile IMHO, but to each their own!

This is interesting?
So, you think I should 86' the 10c and $10 chips?
Given the current quantities, how would you do it? Could really use your help, and appreciate any and all feedback you could provide.
Thanks in advance,
Nuts

what are your blinds?
I'd probably do something like this:
WHITE - 300 - 5c
RED - 250 - 25c
BLUE - 200 -$1
GREEN - 100 - $5
BLACK - 50 - $25
YELLOW - 50 - $100
PURPLE - 50 - $500
so the white/red/blue gives you $277 in chips. the greens add $500. more than enough for a $5 buy-in I suspect
I'd also consider leaving the yellow and/or purple's with no denomination on the label that way you can use them as needed or as bountys for a tournament:
this way will also make a great tournament set, just divide www.homepokertourney.com 's blinds by 100 (and the blanks can be bounty chips if your into that sort of thing)
edit: I might switch around the whites and blues if you are planning on having more $20 buyins in the future.

Exactly what I was looking for!!
Blinds are start low, only 25c and 50c... but are progressively raised as the number of players are reduced.

do you play any games where you need a 5c chip? if not I'd take that off and move everything else accordingly, unless of course you want to run tourneys where you need a 5 chip.

Yea, most of what we play is what you might consider a Z game, and if there was a letter after Z, we would probably be it.
Nickels, Dimes, and Quarters for us P Sick going to the bank for change, time for some decent chips.
Seems like alot of folks have these Nexgen chips, and most who do think they are a pretty good value... (they might be the best value in the "Mid-price" poker chips? Have seen several arguments that say otherwise, and everyone is entitled to thier opinion...
But at 20c a Chip, these things were a steal!

we play 20 man games with 4 colors!
its cheaper and easier for you to stick with less! (the novelty of big stacks get old real quick!)
Have you thought about using $25 chips for .25 as well?
