I was wondering what the best poker table top material to use?
I heard Velveteen bleeds its color on cards and chips.
Is expensive Billiard felt worth the money? easy to work with?
Suited poker cloth?

Double Velvet. Velveteen is nothing but a wannabee velvet. Personally I dont know why people use that stuff at all.

I've played at some B&Ms that use a light suede, and I've heard that a faux suede is good, but no personal experience with it. I voted billiard cloth.
My advice is to get the best you can possibly afford -- the surface will make or break a table. If you get cheap cloth and save $25 (or $50) on a $200-$300 table, that's no bargain.

I just used a faux suede on a table. Looks great, feels great. Only thing I didnt like about it was that it wasnt as stretchable as other fabrics.

I have been using a green 100% cotton velveteen for my cheapo roll-up table-topper pad, and it does stain my fingers a little after a night's worth of shuffling (haven't played enough to notice card/chip staining though), but I think if I had washed it several times first this wouldn't happen. The playing quality/feel of it is great, though. I can't stand real velvet--the texture just give me the chills for some reason. Faux suede I felt was too grippy, and it is a synthetic (i.e. a plastic like polyester) and therefore will melt if contacted by flame/cigarette ash. I read the post by the guy with the red velveteen staining issue, but I think his main problem is using red, which I think is a very unstable dye for fabrics in general. I agree with the above posts--if you're going to the expense of actually making a nice table, get the good stuff: real poker "speed" cloth or billiard cloth.

Without a doubt if you have the money, Simonis billiard cloth is the finest thing you can get. 2nd to that would be another high quality wool blend cloth such as Titian, Tour Edition, Mercury etc... Anything above 20oz and 75%wool or more is exceptional. Speed cloth is one of the better choices but still isn’t even close to Simonis and Titian (IMHO). If you are building a fixture in your house that you want to be proud of and have no regrets spend the extra cash. I personally chose Titian 21oz; if you get it the instant you open the package of you will know where the money went. However, to be honest, I wish I had spent another $30-$60 and used Simonis 860 or 760. Simonis is around $150 for 7'x54"

Oh, and as far as ease to work with. I have only had personal experience with Simonis and Titian in the high end rage stuff and both were very easy to work with.

I used red poker speed cloth for my table. After 1 month I have noticed that whenever the humidity rises the cloth loosens. A lot. I'm not sure if I installed it wrong of if this is normal. I think next time I will go with some kind of high end billiard felt.

The highest of high end billiard cloth is what I'd go for.
Titan makes a billiard fabric that is calle "worsted" quality.
Top notch stuff. Guaranteed forever not to fur up. $30 yard.

There's a material called Foxwood and its the materials that most casinos use on thier tables. Its like velveteen but has shorter hairs.
It never needs changing and should last a lifetime for home games.

Where can you find this "foxwood"?

Last august.. all we wanted was a felt playing surface... Looked on the internet.. and what i got.. started a small business.
We have been using the same Kunin Purple felt tablecloth with drawstring string since august..
and I started making them.. custom to any tablesize.. for small groups as well as tournaments.. even troops in Guam.
They seem to last.. and found a way to control pilling.
You need some.. be glad to help out...
c
The idea.. get the game going.. anywhere we plop down.. it has to be portable!

Sounds pretty neat, I'm thinking about it, although I think you need a real host and someone to design the site a bit nicer, no offence but you could probably do a lot better with a better design.
