What would you do?

Okay, I own two 500pc sets of chips... both the NJ "Dead Man" and "Desert Sands" ceramics. I have this friend who always hosts our poker games... he has a complex of some sort. It has been over a year since he decided he wanted a nice set of poker chips, and he still is obsessing over which ones to get. Here's how the timeline goes:

- He introduces me to the Dead Man chips. Within 10 minutes I decide to buy a set.
- We agree to go in together on a set.
- Decides he doesn't like them any more. I buy the set myself.
- For the next 3-4 months he agonizes over this decision.
- FINALLY, he decides on the ChipCo 'Suits'. Tells me how great they are and how glad he is that he didn't get the NJs, etc.
- 2 Weeks later, decides that he doesn't like the Suits. Heh.
- Decides he wants clay chips... doesn't like the Blue Chip JBs, doesn't like the NJ clays, doesn't like the NJ Martini Clubs...
- In the meantime I get my Desert Sands.

Now, we used the DS for the first time this weekend. He now tells me that they are his favorite chip out of all the ones he's seen and played with and that he is seriously considering buying them off of me once he sells the 'Suits'. Now, I bought those only with the intention of using them at his house for the home games, so it wouldn't bother me to sell them to him. I am, however, a little worried about him deciding he no longer likes them and selling them off.

So what would you do in this situation? I mean, there's no sense in having two sets if we use them at the same place, right? On one hand, if he buys them and really does find them to be the best chip for him, I will never have to hear monologues about edge spots and colors and feel again. On the other hand, if he decides to sell them (which seems likely considering the history), then a chip set I like very much will be gone (I'll probably use the money elsewhere so I won't be buying them back).

In my opinion, he needs to hunt down a set of TH&Cs and buy them even if he has to mortgage his house (he has 5 of them and never stops talking about how great they are). Anyone else know people like this? Laughing

I could understand if your friend was a teen-ager or something, but he sounds as if he is a mature adult. If that is indeed the case, I think it's time that he started to make his own decisions and accepted responsibility for them. Much as you're trying to be a good friend to him, you may be doing him a disservice with all of your support.

I say if you're using the Desert Sands at his house always, might as well get him to pay for them. If he wants to sell them later and you like them, well NOW they're used! Plus if he's in a obsessive frenzy to buy some other chips, he'll probably give you a good price on these.

I say sell them to him and then buy them back cheap! If not, you're still getting to use them free.
