Starting My Own Game

Posted Thu Mar 03, 2005 8:42 pm GMT by PokerMan89
Hello everyone well i'll get right to the point myself and about 5 friends are going to play a NO-LIMIT Holdem game next week, and this will be my first game ive really played in. The buy-in is $5, and there will be 6 players.

How many chips should I use? How many different colors of these chips? What should the winner get, and 2nd or 3rd place? Should I just use 3 colors of chips, and let them represent 1,3,5 ? Sould blinds start 1,3 the raise them after a while?

Please just give me some hints, or tips to starting, and running a successfull game!!

Thanks, PokerMan

Alright here is how i do it....Dont consider me a noob or a really expirenced player. I usually have 6-8 players. We usually have 4 denoms in chips 5 10 25 and 50 blinds start out at 5/10 and they go up every 20-30 minutes from 5/10 to 10/20 20/40 and just double every half hour. Usually second gets money back and winner takes the rest but if u want to say second and third get money back thast fine its all up to you, but personally with 6 ppl if 2 and 3 get money back it will only be 15 to the winner. Hope this post helped. I would say winner 25 second 5 for the money or maybe 20 10.

This is how my home games go.

If the buy in is only $5, we use white chips, red chips and blue chips.
White- 5c
Red-10c
Blue-25c

Everyone has 20 white chips ($1) 20 red chips ($2) and 8 blue chips ($2).
Blinds do not raise, 5c blind for everyone. Only a small blind with this little of cash. There is no 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Play until a certain time. (7-11:30). At 11:30 you cash out. If you have 13.50, take 13.50. If you have more people, or use more money, use green chips as 50c and blacks as $1. I find playing with a $5 buy in and having hundreads of chips can be confusing. And you're not always sure on how much you are actully betting. If you play this way, when you bet $1, you bet $1.

Good luck on your game!

I also play 5 dollars. This is how ours works:

Whites: 5 cents
Reds: 10 cents
Blues: 25 cents
Blacks: 50 cents

You get:

15 whites
10 reds
5 blues
3 blacks

And that should add up to 5 dollars

Two years ago when I were at university, we used to play with 22x$25 and 12x$100 giving us a $1,750 starting chip count. Blinds started at 25/50 and doubled every 45mins. The average 6-handed game took about 2.5-3hrs but back then, I was pretty clueless about poker so you might wanna ignore this Wink

If it were up to me now, we'd play 20min levels with blinds increasing more incrementally, not just doubling. Those older games became a bit too much of an all-in fest on level 4 and above but it was often about 1am so perhaps that was a good thing........ I'm rambling Rolling Eyes
