Heh, just because somebody lists that set for 25k, doesn't mean it is worth 25k. How many bids do you expect to see? LOL What a ridiculous auction.

It occurred to me... If the Vineyard casino had just sold their chips for what people think they can get for them... they would still be in business...

Even the new Paulsons don't look THAT bad.

If you think about it, these chips are worthless (well not per say...). The only reason they are going for these outragous prices is because PaulsonChips created the market for these chips. As far as I know, he owns every chip (all 150,000 of them) ever, from the Vineyard Casino. He has created his own market online, and can charge whatever he wants because he has concinced people that these are the best (not saying that they arent, because they are pretty) and charges whatever he wants for them. He has got people selling ONE CHIP for hundreds of dollars. He has created the market.

'Free market economy, may I please introduce normal good and pure monopoly.'
Basic micro- in its most elemental form.
Nothing wrong with basic economic theory actually proving to be CORRECT in practice once in a while, is there?

Actually, the people created the market themselves.
I started listing these chips at .95 each about a 10 months ago. And they were selling OK.
But then the word caught on and I was getting too many orders. To slow the orders I raised the prices, the orders didnt stop.
And when I ran out of certain denmonations, people had to get them from others online. And with all these other people competing to get them......
You know the story.........
Whats funny is that I had about 2000 $10 chips when I got the lot, and I was thinking "man, who the heck would want all these $10's" So I would give away a rack of $10's whenever people would buy 2000 or more chips.
Now they are going for $75 each online.......

Classic Guess I fell in love with these chips just a tad too late, eh?

Amazing. 10 months? I guess I goofed when I called these chips 'normal goods.' Looks more like I should have classified them as an investment/collectible.
And, yes, PC, I know you weren't responsible for the price increases. My earlier comment was more in the way of good natured ribbing. In fact, given the opportunity, I'd probably do much the same thing (except for giving away the most valuable chips in the set!)
On another note, why do you think the $10 chips are fetching those prices? I can understand some wild collectors out there may want to complete some California casino set, but really, $75 each?? I have a feeling this may be more of a mass consumerism and consumer information costs issue than, say, a supply/demand thing.
If I could afford a set, I'd buy one. These things are beautiful. But financing a legal education tends to suck one dry, and my savings are all but gone at this point. Maybe by the time I graduate there will be a few sets of these left intact and unplayed for sale under $1,000,000 and I can get one

This is how it all started. Some guy calls me and says: "I want 200 of everychip in the set" I tell him I dont have any $10's.
This happends about 5 times, and it starts to show up on Ebay "EXTREMELY RARE DEN!".
And then you can figure the rest out!
It happends all the time with my chips, just watch, Im here offering my chips for 1.60 each, and when Im out, look where they will go.
