What do you do if the guy next 2 u keeps exposing cards??

Posted Mon Mar 07, 2005 9:31 am GMT by darthsikle
Should you tell him?? I am embarrassed to say I did not. Every hand he would lift the cards up and I could see.

When we were head to head it was awful for him. I had the nut flush on the turn. When the river comes, he hits his boat. I check, he bets only $25 and I fold.

How bad is this?? Should I be ashamed of myself??

While it is his responsibility to protect his cards, you should have told him.

I know. I feel bad now. Sad

Exactly. I wouldn't feel obligated to tell him more than once, but I would tell him one time.

Forget this!

There is an old saying.

Never give a sucker an even break.

You are there to take his money, he is there to take yours, if he gives you an advantage do you make full use of it?
Hell Yeah!

Easy.....look at his cards. Hell, if he doesn't have enough sense to protect his cards, then he needs poker lessons anyway.
I will admit that one of my neighbors has a terrible habit of doing this. We tell her in the first hand of every game "You might want to keep your cards down so others can't see them." Then we proceed to take her money. When she sits next to me, I try not to look at her cards, but if they're in my line of sight, I can't help it. Poker is a game of information.
The funniest thing is when she tries to bluff the pot and I already know what she has and I re-raise her. She'll fold and then look at me with the confused puppy dog face and ask me how I knew she was bluffing. A few times I've actually told her it was because I could see her cards when she holds them up. She still doesn't learn. You can lead a horse to water.......

Wouldn't this be like telling somebody what their tell is? I would never want to give up any advantage I had, but I know why your conscience is telling you otherwise. Smile

Well, she's not the brightest crayon in the box. Not telling her at least once is like taking advantage of a disabled person.

I was playing $2/$4 limit at Casino Rama north of Toronto last year and got into a big argument with the dealer about this. I had two buddies sitting on either side of me that kept raising their cards high enough for me to see. This dickler told them they should keep them down because I could see what they had. I told him he had no business telling these guys anything because his job was to deal and not educate. He gets all snotty so I called for the pit boss. The dealer was moved to another table and I got a free dinner. I also made $200 that night, but probably would have had a lot more from those two guys. Damn, I was mad.

geez... yeah u should be mad.. i figured dealers werent allowed to say stuff like that.. just one more thign.. how is casino rama for hold em? any good?

They only had ten or twelve tables when I was there. I was surprised I only had to wait 20 minutes or so on a weekend to get on a $2/$4 table(they only had 2 open at the time). A lot of casual players go there on the weekend, I think because the play was easier than I expected.

I always though the casino rule was "show one, show all" - Ive sat at a table where one player mentioned he saw another's cards, and the dealer forced him to show his hand to the table....I cant help but feel that dealer was correct but handled it poorly, if he knew you could see their cards it was his responsibility to have them show their hands at least once as a lesson. Am I wrong?

Cheers
Zig

I was at Harrah's in AC this weekend and sure enough, the same guy was there. I just happened to sit next to him again, and he was still exposing his cards.

In 4 words Keep looking at them Laughing

I had the same thing happen at a 3/6 game this weekend (a newer player) and I politely leaned over and whispered to the guy that he needs to be better about protecting his cards. He thanked me, and turned a little red but seemed to appreciate it. I don't need that advantage to win ... and honestly, would prefer not to have it. I took most of his chips anyway, as he strong-played second pair to the river.

Peace,

Loon

I was a little drunk playing 2/5. We were just out for a night of drinking not so much there to win, normally I dont drink while playing. Well i was exposing my cards and a guy to my right whispered thay he could see my cards. I thanked him and I would do the same for someone else. If you tell someone though and they continue to do it then its no longer my responsibility. Ive warned you once.
