Those are terrific authentic Bud Jones chips. A large amount was auctioned a month or two ago on eBay (for BIG $$$$$!), but I don't remember the auction. There are some higher denoms being auctioned now:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63759&item=6160751624&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Maybe the same guy has others.

Posted Mon Mar 07, 2005 9:32 pm GMT by adidino
I just bought a bunch from that same guy.. and it was huge money Crying but now I need to expand this collection and add $5's and $1's

Posted Mon Mar 07, 2005 9:48 pm GMT by tomb1
Hmmm, so you're the one who bought them....

If you're dead set on getting the Maximillions, I suppose you can just wait and see, cause there are more out there. But they will be pricey.

If you want some equivalent Bud Jones chips, you might look for the Dodge City (Washington) casino chips. They're almost the same. You just missed a reasonable auction ($1 apiece) for 200 of the dollar chips:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63760&item=6158383574&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

There was also a recent auction of a full set, but more expensive:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63758&item=6157739801&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Actually, for $1 chips you could buy some racks from a real casino, at $1 apiece (duh!). My favorite is the Frontier Hotel in LV. Incredible $1 BJ chip:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63750&item=6158959999&rd=1

Their $5 chip is a BJ masterpiece, but unfortunately they cost $5 apiece.

I just emailed the guy with the Dodge City chips.. we'll see what he says.. They look nice but I think the inlay for the Maxamillion is hard to beat IMO.

it doesnt bother you that the chips stick together?

Posted Mon Mar 07, 2005 11:45 pm GMT by ott
Sticking together is a little misleading. It does have a little bit of suction between chips, but it's not that bad as people make them out to be. There is no way if you pick up one chip that another would "stick" to it and not fall off right away. And after some use, you won't even notice it.

There are Bud Jones chips that doesn't have that problem at all like the coin inlay ones and the BJ chips with circles (dots) on the face and on the edge.

Posted Mon Mar 07, 2005 11:47 pm GMT by PaulsonChips
basically the BJ chips without the metal center.

I have 2 sets of the BJ chips with the metal center and no one wants to play with them because they have a hard time shuffling them.

I have a set of every "type" of BJ chips, all except the cheaper econo BJ chips that are used in the WSOP and Bellagio WPT.

Man I REALLY WANT THOSE!

Are you referring to the cheaper BJ chips like the BJ wheel checks? I have some generic BJ roulette which are slightly lighter than standard BJ chips.

I know the ones you mean now. The few hundred Mirage Springs 50 cents chips are like those same ones.

The ones currently used as $1 house chips are PaulSon.

I would pay almost anything for a set like that. But the thing is, they generally only use those for the low den. You hardly see any $25 or $100 of that type. I would seriously pay $6 a chip for a full set.

I think Las Vegas Hilton has them. They recently released a new house set that are like those BJ you wanted. I'm not too sure about denoms above $5 though, but their 2003 release has those BJ chips too.

I really LOVE those chips, they sound just like clay but are indestructible. Im going to keep my eyes out when I head out to the islands next month for these. I would take the entire lot 100K chips just to have a set of these suckers.

a lot of times these casinos will only sell you thier used chips if you buy ALL of them, so if thats the case, u better have your wallet ready!

Thats how I got into this whole mess with the Vineyards!

Well... that's how one corner the market on a specific retired casino chips. :D

Paulsonchips....Just wanted to let you know that the chip you are referring to is a V7 tpe B decal (not type C). For example, the $5 Max Chip is a type C. Type C's have a larger decal. I don't own any type B's so I can't comment on the feel of them. But Type C's are very different from type A's.

He's talking about a BJ V6 chip. Those were the ones he referred to that sounded closest to clay.

Okay, now I am somewhat confused. I am pretty sure Paulsonchips was referring to a V7 chip. The 50 cent four queens chip he posted is definitely a V7 chip. As you can see it is a Decal B chip. V6 chips only come in the Decal A size. Correct me if I am wrong, but it surely looks like the fourqueens chip is a Decal B, V7, with a B outer ring design, Range B inner ring, and an E inner ring. If anyone disagrees, please enlighten me.

The ones that he was referring to were the lighter weight BJ chips. Having said that V7 BJ chips have a metal insert and V6 doesn't.

I thought all BJ chips had a metal insert. Has anyone cut their V6 chips in half to see? I know the V7 chips I have all have inserts. I cut all of them out of curiosity. I might buy a V6 chip to find out myself then.

Posted Sat Mar 19, 2005 4:22 pm GMT by PaulsonChips
not all BJ chips have a metal insert. The $1 from Bicycle club is one example. The Four Queens chip pic I uploaded does not either.

Posted Sun Mar 20, 2005 6:10 pm GMT by Engineer51
Last week I bought 600 of the maxamillion cruise BJ chips from "maxchips" on ebay. I haven't received them yet, but I can already imagine how great they will be.

Anyway, I am looking to get the other "kind" of BJ chips without the metal center. I was looking around on the chipguide, and came across the las vegas hilton chips---hate the inlay with every fiber of my being. I also came across the tuscany casino house chips. They appear to use the V6 BJ chip for $1, 5$, $25, and $100 denominations. Obviously, it would be prohibitively expensive to buy a full set of these, but I was wondering if these were, in fact, an example of a full set of the cheaper bud jones chips. If they are the same type as the Four Queens and LV Hilton chips, I will probably buy 500 of the $1 chips and 200 of the $5 chips at a cost of 1500 dollars. I spend waaaaaayyyyy too much on this habit.

Any input from someone knowledgeable in this area as to the nature of the Tuscany chips?

Posted Sun Mar 20, 2005 6:17 pm GMT by adidino
I bought 600 from Maxchips as well.. The best matching chips for $1 and $5's were the Borgata chips. Same exact chip as the Max chips. I bought the same denoms you were thinking.. 400 $1's and 200 $5's. Great looking chip also.

Posted Sun Mar 20, 2005 8:00 pm GMT by tomb1
Geez guys, you sure love this chip stuff. I spend a lot of money on chips, too, but I've never bought $5 chips in quantity at face value. Wow! What a great idea, I only wish I could afford it.

Your Max chips are the classic BJ V7s with the Decal Size A -- that gives the maximum amount of rim area for that great BJ composite material.

Dino, your Borgatas are a terrific match. The gold foil ring adds a little extra pizazz. What a set you have now!

Engineer, I don't know where you'd be willing to go to get some, but here are some other suggestions.

If you want Decal A chips to match, there are still some Dodge City chips on eBay from time to time, especially some good quantities of $1 chips like these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6162587727 He probably has others, maybe even $5's.

Other Decal A in Vegas --

A superb chip in classic BJ pattern is at the Frontier, an older hotel on the top of the LV strip. I heard it was closing this year, so I don't know its status right now. I own a few and these are beautiful chips: http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/lasvegs/tnfrontr.htm

Another place is the Resort at Summerlin. The $1 is a nice V6 chip but the $5 is another classic V7: http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/lasvegs/sumrline.htm

Laughlin -- more classic chips at Harrah's in Laughlin: http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/laug/nvharla.htm These feel and play really great, if they haven't all been replaced by the Paulson clays.

Decal A in Reno -- Atlantis in Reno has the $1 chips with 24 grooves, but they're nice, plus regular $5: http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/reno/nvatrno.htm

Decal B chips --

If you're willing to get Decal B chips (which are damn fine chips, almost the same as your Maxamillions but not quite), there are more possibilities. (If you'd like a sample of B chips, just email me.)

The Tuscany chips in Vegas are sweet: http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/lasvegs/tuscany.htm These are definitely BJ V7 chips (not V6) but with the larger inlay.

Probably the best looking set is at Canterbury Casino in Minnesota (I think somebody on the board lives near there): http://www.chipguide.com/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi?id=mnshcc These are a lot like the WSOP Finals chips.

A weird place for great Decal B chips is Golden Moon in MIssissippi: http://www.chipguide.com/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi?id=msphgm These are a lot like Tuscany's, and I could get all you want of these for you.

Other Vegas B chips -- http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/nlasvegs/texasgh.htm
http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/lasvegs/flminghc.htm (so-so chips)
I don't know anything about the LV Hilton or Four Queens chips.

Reno B chips -- http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/reno/nvgpxrno.htm (great chips)
http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/reno/nvcnrno.htm (new 2003 chips)
http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/reno/nveldrno.htm (new 2003 chips)

San Diego B chips -- http://www.chipguide.com/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi?id=casdhr

There are also lots of places to get Decal C chips, which are OK but just not a good match for classic BJs, IMO.

OK, that's a ton of choices.... I can see I've gone a little bit overboard (as I've been known to do!)

My favorites would be: #1 Dodge City, #2 New Frontier LV, #3 Harrah's Laughlin.

Posted Sun Mar 20, 2005 10:49 pm GMT by Engineer51
Wow Tomb,

That's alot of choices to think about. I really appreciate all of your insight and suggestions. Those canterbury chips, in particular, are fantastic! One question I have concerns the metal inlay. I will definitely be getting $1's and $5's from your list to go with my max chips, but in the future I might also get some $1's and $5's of the BJ chips without the metal insert. These were referred to as the "cheaper" variety by PaulsonChips and others. Are these the V6 version? If so, does anyone know of a few casinos where these can be obtained? I think PaulsonChips already mentioned the Bicycle Club (in California?). He seems to think that these chips feel more clay-like than the V7's. I have learned that with most things, PaulsonChips tends to know what he is talking about.

Thanks again, Tomb

Posted Sun Mar 20, 2005 11:00 pm GMT by Engineer51
By the way Tomb,

I think the atlantis $5 chip is my favorite. It looks like they switched to a different type of BJ chip in the late nineties. Do you know if they still offer the classic BJ type A $5 chip?

Also, the Harrah's $1 and $5 chips would work well too.

Posted Mon Mar 21, 2005 12:50 am GMT by tomb1
Hi Engineer,

I haven't been to The Bike so I can't personally vouch for their chips, but they look like V7 chips from their rim designs. They look very similar to the Borgata chips from AC. Maybe I'll try to get there next time I'm in SoCal.

I think the Atlantis in Reno is still using the white BJ grooved chips as their $1. With all their $5 commemoratives available, I don't know if they have dropped their 1999 $5 classic BJs (with the BJ mint mark). But I don't know for sure... most of my chips I've collected in person, but I've gotten others by auctions.

As far as metal inserts, I don't know which V7 or V6 chips have or don't have them. Some have steel inserts that you can tell with a magnet, but some have brass/bronze/other? inserts that are not magnetic. So unless we cut 'em open, we may not know.

If you haven't seen the GPI (Paulson & Bud Jones) brochure on their web site, here it is. It's bad quality graphics, but at least you can see some of the designs for the BJ V7s and V6s (pages 10-13). http://www.gpigaming.com/pdf/US_Chips.pdf

i just recently got some of the canterbury chips from someone on the forum, i love the wsop-similar designs of all of their chips, every denom. but my question is where can i get some of the designs that are seen on their higher denom chips, on lower denoms at another casino? for instance:the 4 spot with diamonds, or the 6 spot with dots, or the 4 spot with squares. where can i get these designs for cheaper if im paying face value?

Posted Mon Mar 21, 2005 8:13 pm GMT by pocket snowmen
bump... i need those chips.....

Posted Mon Mar 21, 2005 9:27 pm GMT by tomb1
I don't know what denoms you want, snowmen. The Canterbury chips are about the best looking ones, and I haven't seen too many different denoms other than you can get there. Are you looking for a different $1 chip design from another casino to go with your $1 Canterbury, for example? I'll try to help if I understand what you want.

Posted Mon Mar 21, 2005 9:32 pm GMT by pocket snowmen
im interested in the designs that are seen on the higher denoms of the canterbury chips. but i want them on lower denom chips because i will have to pay face value for them most likely. I like the ones from harrahs rincon in california. do you understand what im looking for?

http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/lasvegs/ladyluck.htm (2003-$1)

Hey Drinkup,

did you ever win that auction a while back for the mirage springs chips?

Posted Thu Mar 24, 2005 3:08 am GMT by drinkup
I was waaaaay overbid. I don't remember what they went for. I was hoping to get them for less than $2 per. Embarassed

For now, all I have is 200 Golden Moon $1 chips, and 100 Casino Sadsh $100 chips.

Still looking for any bud jones $5, and $25 chips.

Posted Thu Mar 24, 2005 3:20 am GMT by ott
That set didn't have the harder denominations to get, namely the $25 and the oversize $100.

I only have about 800 or so Mirage Springs chips and I still don't have a good playable set.

Posted Thu Mar 24, 2005 8:17 am GMT by pocket snowmen
post pics please....

Posted Thu Mar 24, 2005 12:43 pm GMT by B_rock
If I remember correctly, it was for 1's, 2's, and 5's. I too was agressively over bid :x I found some 25's and 100's for sale but they were inbetween $5 and $10 per! Just crazy. Although I have to say they are my favorite bud jones design (both mould and inlay) to date. I love that gold ring, very classy.
