eBay is my only suggestion, unless you buy from a collector (expensive).

The Bud Jones V7 chip is the one that is most commonly found in casinos today. You can read up on them from the GPI brouchure at http://www.gpigaming.com/pdf/US_Chips.pdf . While they don't have the 'coin center' that is found in earlier Bud Jones chips that is still in use in many Nevada and Atlantic City casinos, they do have a brass center which is covered with a printed security label.
Since you can't go into a cardroom or casino, the cheapest way to get some of these chips would be to have someone of age get them for you from a cardroom or casino at face value. Generally the lowest denomination would be $1 each. Since they would be general circulation house chips, there's no real reason to pay someone on eBay a premium in order to acquire these chips.
If you want something that is very close to the Bud Jones chip, the Jackpot Casino coin center chips from 5stardeal are very close in both size and weight, though the plastic that is used for those import chips are a little more slippery than the plastic that is used for the Bud Jones chip.

I feel for ya. My only suggestion is to watch eBay.
This guy seems to have quite a few Bud Jones chips he auctions off one at a time -- New Frontier, Borgata AC, and I've seen some others (and bought a few from him).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63750&item=6161024937&rd=1
You might email/msg him to see if he has a stash and would be willing to part with 10-20 at a reasonable price. Good luck!
Here's another auction for some superb BJ examples, this person might have some more.

Or seach eBay for "Bud Jones" in titles and descriptions, then look at completed auctions.

Or some kind soul here that has a Paypal account could just pick some up at their local cardroom or casino, and mail them to him? Then he could just arrange payment through Paypal. Or he could just get the money to the benefactor the old fashioned way, by mail.

Those Canterbury chips are real nice, and an example of the newer style BJs. They have great feel and playability. They are like the WSOP BJs.
But to me, the classic BJs are even better -- the Dodge City, New Frontier, Maxamillion, MGM Grand, etc. that have a slightly smaller inlay area and a little wider rim. Those are incredible.
The older BJs on this page are the best: http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/lasvegs/mgmgrand.htm

Very nice. I have a big set of BJ chips too. I'm still adding to mine to make it a playable set.

Snowmen,
You want some of the BJ $1 chips from Casino Morongo near Palm Springs?
http://www.chipguide.com/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi?id=cacacm
(dark blue chip, 8th picture down)
They look and feel great, shuffle terrific, and are a newer version of the classic BJs like Maxamillion.
I picked up 20 of them this afternoon for you (plus some more $1 and $5 for my collection!) if you want them. Email me: tomb1(at)msn.com.

adidino, very very nice chips. I take it this is a real casino and you paid face value? WOW-
I've handled the same chip from the Borgata (AC) and they are very, very nice. They are also slick, but I do think there is some slight magnet in them or something, because they won't topple. Also you can pick up a chip off a stack quickly and another chip will momentarily stick, perhaps that is a vacuum function? Anyone have better insight?
Posted Thu Mar 10, 2005 9:47 am GMT by adidino
It does have that "magnet" effect to which is indeed a vacuum. The inlay is slightly indented while the surface is smooth and flat so this allowes the air to be trapped in between the chips. I can stack these chips twice as high as any clay chip. These are honestly the best chips I ever handled and I'm happy with my purchase.

Here are some pics of Bud Jones chips for you BJ fans.

Sorry, but I can't resist the irony and have to post one of my favorite comparisons in describing a BJ V6 chip to one of the China chips.
They're both injection molded plastic, they both have a metal slug in the middle (brass in the case of the BJ), and like some of the chips from China, they also have a label in the center of the chip.
I often wonder if that vacuum effect is why some people like the RPT chips better than than Vegas Nexgens. Also wonder if the Nexgens might have better adhesion if they had a smooth surface like the BJs.

How do you like the coin centered BJ's? do they have the same vacuum effect? how do they feel compared the MGM for example?

The MGM chips have a angled edge unlike most other BJ chips.

Boy, it's difficult to describe in words the difference between the coin-centered and the decal chips.
Many of the coin-centered are a slightly less-expensive/older model V6 chip, while most of the decal chips are a V7 chip. I don't know if there is a difference in the actual material, or what. The V7 chips have more choices in the rim and insert design, and thus usually look better.
But look at two nearly identical V7 chips -- the New Frontier decal (bottom middle in the classic pic) and the Viking Serenade coin chip (2nd from the right in the coins). They have the exact same mold design.
The coin sounds a little more metallic but not cheap, and the decal sounds just about like a clay Paulson. The molded plastic material seems the same. But all the coin chips appear to have very sharp edges, where the decal chips seem to have a more rounded/beveled edge. They both stand on their edge, but the coin chips seem to have a sharp 90* rim. And you're right -- the MGM chips have a much more rounded edge than other BJs.
The decal chips feel "softer" to me, and I like them better. They look better, they sound better, and they feel a little better, probably due to the beveled edge. But the coin chips are damn fine chips, too. And all BJs are nearly indestructible.

That Flamingo chip you have should sound closer to clay than any other style BJ chips. The current LV Hilton chips are the "cheaper" BJ chips that PaulsonChips was looking for. Those are the closest chips to sounding like clay while being almost indestructible.

which 'style' chip is the first one on the top row in the 2nd pic?
do any casinos have that bud jones 8 spot style as a one dollar chip?
Posted Fri Mar 11, 2005 8:47 am GMT by adidino
I would love to get my hands on a playable set of MGM Grand BJ. They are sold on ebay in pairs or single. Anyone have an idea where I make be able to pick up a bunch at a time?

Snowmen, that 1st chip of the classics is a Flamingo chip from Las Vegas. It's an 8-stripe style BJ and a nice playable chip.
See the Flamingo page: http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/lasvegs/flminghc.htm
The 10th chip down is the 60th anniversary chip I have, but the 9th chip down appears to be the same -- their current house $5 chip with a different inlay. You could probbably get all these you want.
If you look at the 3rd chip, it is their current blue $1 chip. It's the BJ "24 line" chip with 12 small edges spots, a neat chip but not quite the same style as the house $5.

i like the 8 spot, and the 3 spot with dots, and the 4 spot with diamonds, and the 8 double spot, like the flamingo's 25$ house chip....
do any casinos have any of these styles as their one or 2 dollar chip?

Actually it sounds like the Cantebury's you were looking at have the best variety of looks. These are awesome chips: http://www.chipguide.com/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi?id=mnshcc
