Gentlemen,
I was just wondering about KEMS, or plastic cards in general.
1) Just how long will these things last realistically? I have heard some pretty good stories, but are they just stories.
2) How do you take care of them, specifically? Do you really wipe down each card at the end of the night, as I have heard or is the care and feeding easier?
Thanks

The only "don't do" with kem cards I can think of is to leave them in a hot environment. My buddy left a deck in his car during the summer and when we finally went to use them, the cards were bowed, but still well playable. As far as cleaning, just wipe them off with a damp cloth. This worked fine for me. We were playing cards over Labor Day last year and this one goofball dumped a pitcher a beer twice on my entire deck. The next day I wiped them off with a damp cloth and they as good as new.

1. How long? Well, depends on how much you play 'em. I have some 10 year old Kems that have been played once in a while and are still in great shape. Another set of Arrows has gotten 2 years of pretty good play and are still going strong.
I would guess that a deck of Kems would last as long as 10-20 decks of decent paper cards (like Bikes). So however long 20 decks would last for you, count on that for the Kems.
2. As far as cleaning, I say clean whatever cards get dirty. Just wipe down with a wet paper towel or cloth, and use a little bit of soap if necessary to get off food etc. I wouldn't use hot water or (as Nijer said) keep them in a hot place. Store them flat... I use the cardboard box from an old deck of Bicycles for the deck I use most (and travel with).
