playing KK after an A-high flop

Posted Thu Mar 10, 2005 12:42 am GMT by Cjwr42
Im having a hard time playing kk when the flop is a-high. ill raise 5 or 6 times the bb, so only premium hands should stay in, like AA-A10 and pocket pairs, but that is my problem. they catch that A on the flop and im a HUGE dog. any suggestions?

I think KK is an all-in hand. More so than AA in some ways. With KK I want to either steal the blinds and be happy with that - or make loose players with AQ or AK or low pairs take a gamble - a gamble that they are a big dog.

i too will go all in on KK most of the time. although last itme i did it this was the result...

me: KK
her: 88

flop: 5,6,j

turn: 7

river: 4

so ya theres what K's can getcha. but just as much you can hit em. Wink

sometimes you have too big of a stack, and it just seems stupid to push it all in before the flop. i tend to make a raise 5-6x the big blind, and if i take the blinds i wont be mad because i make people fold hands like A2-A6 suited.

After the flop if it comes something like A 8 5 rainbow, i will usually put a feeler bet out if i am first to act, depending on who i am playing against, but the chance of someone flopping a set from the under cards on the flop is a possibilty, so i will probably check the rest of the streets, and possibly calla a small bet depending on the coming cards.

No way. I want people with A5 and A6 to call. You are going to be winning against these people 70% of the time.

If you just raise and they call and the flop comes A rag rainbow - then definately bet big. They will have to look to their kicker. A check or low bet just screams "pocket pair busted by ace".
