Just curious as to what everyone does when they got/get new clay chips.

i say natural, unless you want to expedite it, then mineral oil.

Not necessary with Chipco chips. I wouldn't break in Clays either. I would want all the wear to be natural.

Personally, I think the best way is to let it happen naturally over the course of time... Expediting the process it self, IMO, is throwing away part of what makes clay chips great. For me, being able to feel the chips developed and get better over time is one of the best parts about having clay chips.

I agree with circlencircle. I, for one, have had my fill of playing with worn, round-cornered, nasty-dirty chips at cardrooms and casinos. Why not enjoy the crisp, clean feel and look of factory-fresh chips while you can? JB Paulsons don't seem to need any oil for color enhancement either--the color saturation is incredible. Almost look like they're pre-oiled or something. Especially the blue and black, so deep and rich. . .mmm

I just thought of this. . . if you want a real "casino crud" look, go around your workplace one day and offer to give everyone a "mouse tune-up". Collect all that lovely epidermal cruft that tends to build-up on the mouse bottom, ball rollers, and mousepad. Mix it into a paste, and rub it into your chips. Ta-da! Instant Sunset Station/Excalibur-style!

i have chipcos, so this partially doesnt apply, because you almost have to break them in naturally. (has anyone done otherwise with chipcos? please tell.) as soon as i got my chips i shuffled one stack of 20 maybe 10-15 times, and you can notice a difference pretty quickly. but i let the rest of the 600 chips be broken in naturally.

I was worried about it too, with that slight "grittiness" to them when they were new. But alas, it only took one home game to get rid of it. Mine haven't had much use at all, but they feel completely fine now.

yeah, after the first home game the 'grittiness' is gone, and they are so much easier to shuffle, after 2-3 home games they are like butter. they stack as well as the first day i got them, but are so much easier to shuffle. I estimate they have about 75 hours of use. also, when mine arrived it was snowing so the chips were extremely cold, that mightve added to the difficulty of shuffling them when i first tried, in addition to the grittiness.
