I was playing a pl $10 buy in game today, and i caught Q7 on big blind. Everyone checks to see the flop which comes Q 5 2 rainbow. I check and the guy behind me raises $2, the guy behind him calls and i reraise pot which is like $7 now. the first guy folds and the second guy calls. the turn comes a 3. I bet huge again and he calls, so now i have over 20 something in the pot. the river comes a 5. I check, he raises $5 dollars, i reraise myself all in for $15 over him. He instanly calls. He held K 5 till the river.
Now whats everyones opinion, did i make the right play, or did this kid just make a stupid move and get lucky? In my mind right now he made a stupid move holding middle pair for that long but I am pissed off right now.

he may have beeen wrong for keeping it, but why push ALL IN on the river instead of just calling him down? With that much already in the pot, I dont think raising helped because it wouldnt have kept him out.

You also had a 7 kicker, which is pretty much useless with a queen. Anyone calling any type of reasonable bet without much to draw at on the board has probably got you beat. This guy was an idiot but thats not the point. With a queen you should not be comfortable without at least a 10 kicker and that is somewhat loose.

When he called your check raise I’d be worried about the 7 kicker (as Jeremiah mentioned). But hey I read this guy completely wrong, I’d have put him on a slow played top pair or trips.
I’m guessing he didn’t think you had 2’s but was hoping he’d hit his King to overpair.

yeah, as I was reading your post I put him on a much higher hand. I probably would have bailed after he bet on the river. Maybe a call but definitely not a "All-in". He was dumb to be in there with what he had though. There is also the problem that he had position on you betting wise.

I think there are a couple of things to learn here. Don't check raise with top pair and a crappy kicker, check raises either make people fold (good) or make them stubborn.
Next I like the spirit on the turn, but come on, you don't even have a good hand, lets not go broke with it.
Why on earth did you check raise again on the river???? Smooth call him or fold time. You are beat so many different ways now it hurts to think about it.
When you get top pair after limping in the BB, I don't mind betting the flop, make it a nice bet, and if you get called slow down. Ask yourself what could they have here? If you are positive you have them beat, and that is a tough decision here, then continue to bet it aggressively. Once the board pairs you can't be that comfortable with your hand.

10 live game. Don't get cute with top pair.
Remember, checkraising wasn't ORIGINALLY a signal of strength - it was something you did to suck more bets out of naive players who saw a check as weakness...

I think you got overly aggressive with top pair no kicker. Sure he had worse but there was a lot out there that had you beat. I like a medium bet on the flop to see where you are but dont be afraid to lay that hand down.
