My first casino poker experience: I only have one regret... |

Well, went to Turning Stone casino yesterday to play poker for the first time. There was a $40 + 10 shootout tourney that me and a couple of friends entered.
Since we got there early, we decided to play some NL$100 to kill time and get a feel for the place. The table was fairly tight and I wouldn't consider the players strong at all. Any nerves were quickly calmed when I realized that I was as good or better than all of the players.
I had some decent cards, but ended up down $13 after about an hour and a half of play. There is one hand that stands out in my mind.
I was dealt A4 under the gun, and I folded it. No big deal. Well, my friend, who was sitting 3 spots to my left raises it to $10, and now I'm really glad I folded.
He gets one caller (the guy to might right, and currently the big blind).
Flop comes J 8 4. I would have hit bottom pair, but I know that it wouldn't have held up, so now I'm really glad I folded. My friend bets out and is raised by the BB. Hmmm, now I'm wondering what the hell they both have. I know my friend pretty well, and I'm guessing AJ.
Turn is another 4, and now I'm kicking myself a little for folding. Just a little cause I'm still not convinced one of them doesn't have 88 or JJ. My friend bets again, and is just called by the big blind. Pot is getting big now.
River is another 4! Ok, now I want to cry. My friend bets out big, and after staring at the board for a minute, the other guy goes over the top all in. My friend thinks for a second and calls.
Big blind had QQ, giving him 4s full of Qs. My friend has AJ (as I suspected, giving him 4s full of Js. And of course, I would have had quad fours, and taken all of both of thier chips. Oh well. It was like a $235 pot.
Didn't place in the money in the tourney, but played well.
All in all, it was a good learning experience.
