First real winning night at the casino

Went to The Grand in Gulfport last night and was playing the 4/8 tables. I sat at a great table where there were almost always pre-flop raises and people playing timid after the flop except for a few players who insisted on raising. First hand I played was Q Heart T Heart flop comes K Heart J Heart 7 Club Turn brings me the 9 and I take down a big pot.

Few hands later, KK busted to Aces.
Few hands later, KK lost to nut flush.

I win a few pots here and there.

Lost a Ace high flush to Aces full of kings, TWICE and it never ruffled me. I really think playing online has helped my game. I was getting away from hands I never would have before and when I thought I had the nuts I went after it.

I was up about 50 (started with 100) when I went to dinner and decided I would play a few hands before heading home. Got pocket aces twice in the next run of hands and got my stack up to over 300 when an ace came on the flop. I decided to play one last (losing) hand and I would call it a night.

I was deald 10 Club 4 Club on the button and limped in. Two clubs on the flop, small bet and everybody called, turn brings another club, thinking I may be on a rush I bet out 8 and get called by one guy. River brings another club and I realize im in trouble. I was going against a maniac who obviously tried to buy pots before so I called his bet and he turns over A Club 7 Club . Sad

Right after that I took the last sip of my white russian, grabbed a few racks and ran out of there with $301 and a big smile on my face. I know it was mainly because I was catching cards that I won, but I also think my play has drastically improved since the last time I played there. Now my big decision is how much to play at the casino vs. online.

You sat down with $50 at a 4/8 game? Must have had a nice rush of cards. Glad you had fun and won.

he sat down with a 100. But i would still sit down with a little more. 100 is kind of short for 4-8

$100 is pretty short, but everybody always sits down at these tables with just a rack. Most people have more in their pockets. Unfortunately I didn't, bu fortunately I didn't need it. Smile

You guys got me thinking, and I was wrong. The format of the table is 1-4, 8, 8. $1 SB $2 BB and you can only raise $4 pre-flop and on the flop. Turn and river you can bet $1 to $8. Does that make $100 a more reasonable starting amount?

definitely makes it more reasonable...

ya, that is different than a normal 4-8 table. 100 is a more reasonable buy in for that.

My first outing in a casino happened when I was in that group of people I see so many times now - see it on tv, caught the craze - go try and win some money. Of course, I got absolutely shellacked at the Rama.

So, I signed up online and bought a couple books - decided if I'm going to try and win at this thing, time to practice and the price of a few books is nothing short of a sound investment.

Since then, I haven't lost in a casino (not to say it wont happen again) but I also attribute my success to online play and the books. They've taught me the game, how to manage your stack, patience and temper.

It's all good! Glad to hear you're having the same success....now stay away from my tables. Smile

Cheers
Zig
