** UPDATED 5/7/05: Pharaoh's Club Paulson Group Buy Info

Posted Wed Mar 16, 2005 10:19 pm GMT by TenPercenter
You have found the Pharaoh's Club group buy, a group collaborated purchase of a unique design of the new Paulson Home poker chip.

The buy is underway, at .87 per chip! You can order all 14 designs now through May 14th!

All "Official" announcements will be made on ChipTalk.net. Information is up to date as of the date in the title. Discussions and minor updates are made in the thread. - TenPercenter

Current Status summary:

- Current Pre-orders turned in: 105,000
- Current group price per chip: 87¢
- Current plan on the shipping: Approximately $11 for first 100 chips, $.72 each add. 25 chips (UPS, insured, signature required)
- Outstanding issues: None. ORDER THEM!
- Current estimate on delivery date: 8-10 weeks from bulk order date
- How long do I have to order: May 14th, 2005
- Who will vend them: ChipTalk will take paypal and credit card orders, One or more established retailers are taking orders.
- Payments accepted: Credit card, PayPal, money order, cashier's check.

Details:

As you may know, Paulson, the “Moby Dick” of poker chips, has just entered the home market again. If you want some of the new Paulson home chips with a fresh, unique design, there is only one choice: The Pharoah's Club.

I decided to put together a new fantasy casino chip to fill the gap. I feel that a new mold change will help make this the best poker chip available anywhere right now.

The set design is now complete and orders are being taken. We modeled the chip after the classic Vegas casino designs on older, real casino chips. Ours has a bit more flair that allows it to compete with the beautiful designs on chips today. It retains all the classic inlay elements: Casino name, a simple logo, and the location of the casino.

If you take part in this group buy, you will be getting a unique and the most sought after new chip on the market, at a price that cannot be matched anywhere. Retail for this chip would be $1.15 bare minimum, and most likely $1.25 to $1.50 each. See the end of this post for bigger mockups.

** Click here to complete the Order form

If you filled in the form already, there’s no need to do so again unless you need to make changes. If you need to update anything, fill it in again, and tell me in the Comments to replace the previous form.

Here are things we know for sure:

  • While this chip set is a collaborative effort among many, many forum contributors, I must stress that I retain all rights for decisions on design, production, and orders. This set has been discussed at great length at the 2+2 forum and I recommend reading the wealth of information see how we got where we are.

  • Each inlay for each for each color of chip is unique.

  • The colors are not negotiable. We were limited to the same color choices that Paulson allows for ALL home chip sets. The clay colors are the exact same as the James Bond from Apache and the denoms match from the $5 up. So you can add to your set if you bought some already.

  • Inlays will be the round, standard sized inlay (7/8”). The mold is being currently being reworked to better fit a standard inlay.

  • From the day that we place the order, it will be approximately 8-10 weeks for delivery to the vendor.

  • The images you see in this post are the current set we have submitted for production.

If you have any questions that the whole group can benefit from the answers, please post here. Still feel free to contact me by any means you want; IM, PM, email, etc.

I love these chips TenPercenter, If i didnt just buy a set of desert sands I would be in on this for sure. I may still come in on it if i grind some extra money out of the tables. Well done on the design.

Also I would like to disagree with all the people on 2+2 that want to change the 1 dollar chip to blue. I say leave it white. I think it would be better if you kept them usual casino colours.

assuming you got the desert sands chips on the NJ sale a couple of weeks ago: sell those bitches! you'll make money off the bat, i imagine, and then you'll have yourself coin for your first 225 pharaohs!

at that point, you're only a hop, skip and a jump from 1000, right?

Here's an argument I haven't seen for making the $0.25 white and the $1 blue: what about all us poor JB slobs who may want to add-on to our JB set with some Pharaoh's Club? Like, I was thinking I would love to get some $0.25 chips (since they aren't even available in JBs), but, whoops, it's the same color as my JB $1 chips!! Yeah, I know I could get the white in non-denom and use it for $0.25, but then it's just not the same as a denom chip. Also, adding Pharaoh's $1s to JB $1s would get confusing, too.

Are you able to ship to Canada? Any idea on what sort of additional shipping fees that will require?

Amazing chips, but I can't commit until I know if there will be prohibitive costs for us Canadian peeps :x

Yep, the perils of having ONLY seven colors to choose from.

You'd have the same problem if we switched the 25¢ to white: they'd clash with the 50¢ JB's.

Not me, I didn't buy any $0.50 chips, and I don't think many other people did, either--$0.25 is a much more useful denom, a fact which you obviously are already aware of. So make us our $0.25 white chips already, Mr. High-End-Egyptian-Themed-Poker-Chip-Maker-Guy! Wink

Man, there's still ONE, SMALL, CHANCE that this might happen.

If they allow shaped inlays (see below), then the round should be the lowest denom, right? And it's be stupid to put a shaped inlay on a white chips since you can't see it. So I'd be forced to make the white chip the 25¢, with a round inlay.

When do you think you'll find out about the shaped inlays. Im not commiting to anything yet but if there were shaped inlays that might put me on the list.

I posted this earlier today on 2+2, but there have been about 25 posts since then...

Ok, now that I've puckered up... I should have saved the love for hearing positive news of shaped inlays.

As for the designs, they don't seem to have as good a balance as the denoms. I think the symbols at the bottom need a bit more weight. Maybe a wider line, or maybe changing them to black line would add a bit of weight to them, and balance the chip better.

With the denoms, the denomination has enough weight to it to balance the color graphic on the top, and focus attention at the middle "Pharaoh's". By comparison, the non-denom versions seem a bit light on the bottom. To me, this is most noticeable on the green and black non-denom chips.

I agree with this on some of the non-denoms. The $5 looks the best I think in terms of weighted balance. Since there is a more horizontal piece at the bottom (the "panther") it adds weight to the bottom that is otherwise there due to a heavy, bolded number. Since not all the non-denom pieces can be horizontal like the piece on the $5-blank perhaps bolding the lines of the non-denom art or even adding a dot to either side of the piece to "frame" it. Say like this:

Well, if you get the shaped inlays, I guess the point would be moot, because that would probably push me off the fence and I'd be forced to buy a whole freaking set! Wink

I read it. J5 and I have discussed it but we haven't come to a conclusion yet. Rest assured I'll decide something soon.

Ten,

Have you tried getting a quote from Matsui for this group buy in case Trademark and/or Paulson cannot do what you want in the first place? Obviously, you like the Matsui clay chips.

I certainly have. I even had them make a new mold for me. I was unhappy with the mold, but I didn't pursue it further because I decided to put all efforts into making them Paulson.

Before you ask, the prices were NOT any better than our Paulson deal. They would have in fact been higher in the long run.

God, i like these a lot Ten!

I just checked with UPS and they will ship a 7lb package from NY to the UK for about $112, so if the chips end up costing .89 each i could have 1000 of these bad boys for a whisker over $1000 Shocked

I'm very tempted, but now i gotta go back and look closer at the details of the buy. closing date, payment etc.

Could you do me a favour and let me know if i have the above shipping details roughly about right?

TenPercenter,

I think I've seen a posting about this before, but how much trouble would it be to change the chip edge design from the "Paulson Chips" and TH&Cs to just all TH&Cs?

In my humble opinion, that would be the most perfect chip out there (not to say that the one's with "Paulson Chips" aren't perfect already).

Just a thought.

Thanks,

This is not possible. For security reasons (and apparently marketing reasons), all home sets will have the same mold, the one that says "APULSON CHIPS" and has only TWO top-hat-and-cane's.

Thanks. Didn't know it was a security issue.

Posted Thu Mar 17, 2005 4:30 pm GMT by Fat Tony
if you can get them to simply put "Paulson" instead of "Paulson Chips" on the outer ring, you'll be my hero. that would solve their security/marketing concerns AND look better.

With Matsui, you're able to get more customization out of it unlike with Paulson, you're stuck with the colors/edgespots/inlay size. I would think you would pay a bit more just to have the ability to customize to your every whim. Rolling Eyes

Bottom line: Trademark was are very busy this week with tradeshows. The owner is out, but gives my guy updates when he talks to Paulson.

In general Paulson is being very, how would you say, inflexible. They don't even want to do 100k orders at all, they wanted to require 250,000k minimum. TM convinced them.

New confirmed info:

- No shaped inlays for home sets. We are allowed round only, standard size.
- Price is .75 base (don't forget other various fees). For .73 we need to buy 250,000 in ONE ORDER. TM says that Paulson has also raised the price on them.
- They are still confirming art charges.

Not much else. I was told there will be no other updates until next Tuesday.

Doesn't really sound like Paulson is really into the whole home market deal does it. Well, I hope they at least do the concentric circles for ya Ten. But thats something we all would like, so it prolly won't happen. Confused

Posted Mon Mar 21, 2005 12:18 pm GMT by TenPercenter
I got a triple confirmation on this today:

Paulson will allow only 7 chips per 100,000 order.

Adter getting the news last week, I sent two long, well written pleas to the prez of Trademark. They went to the mat with Paulson for me. Paulson said no again today. The only way to get more than 7 is to order 200,000 chips at once.

So, scratch all current plans for non-denom chips. There will be seven chips in the set.

Maybe if you wait a bit on the committment, you can get 200K or even 250K chips ordered and even bring down the price.

Or maybe some etailer can pick up the slack on the balance of the chips needed for 200K chips.

who can I contact about shipping/customs/brokerage fee issues to Canada?

The specs from Paulson have arrived! We are converting files to their required format and tweaking some elements that they suggested to look better based on their printers. Once we are ready to send final graphics, we'll update the images on the main post to show any changes (not much at all if anything).

After we get approved graphics and proofs, we'll update the main post and give instructions for ordering!

I'm hoping that the group buy order period can start next week or so. Barring any problems with our art files, we should get proofs soon. Once we have proofs, I can open up the orders.

If you have placed a pre-order then you will get an email warning just before the goup buy.

The group buy period will be short! It will last only 7-10 days, so you have to be ready if you want the rock-bottom price. if you have not placed a pre-order, I would do so now. This way you will get an email remoninder in case you can't visit the Chip Talk forum..

Greg, I hope you do not care, if you do let me know. I frequent another board and noticed someone's avatar was the new 100 chip from the Paulson group buy, i talked to him and he said he was gettin in on the deal too. I made a post on that board
about your chips trying to get some more people, is that ok?

This is great news, but I think more of us need to be talking about this buy. We are at about 65,000 chips right now, and I thing we have about a week left to do it.

Please everyone tell who you know. My Mom even told her cable guy! Smile Tell everyone, and mention it on your favorite forums. Don't break any rules, but spread the word. We're almost there!

Here's the link to post for up-to-date info on the order: http://tinyurl.com/6mu4p

A ChipTalk member did a great 3D rendering of the chips in play. See more angles at the ChipTalk official thread.

Hey Ten, glad to see these things are just about there. I had a quick question about what the site says about the mold.

The mold may be slightly different than what you see depending solely on Paulson.

Do you have any specifics about what differences there may be? I was more curious about whether the two circles in the mold will deffinatley be there or is that something that may be different. I am very interested in jumping on board with these, so I just wanted to check with you first.

Thanks!

seriously, no one has info about the mold. The only place I'd think would have info is Trademark, and the owner says they have not even seen it yet. I sent them our designs, and I'd love it if they liked and used them.

Ten,

Your chips are stunning. I really would like to purchase some. I am trying to get my finances in order to see if I will be able to afford some (I missed alot of work due to my recent health problem). Really nice job with the design, and GREAT price! Did you get the commiment up to 100,000 or do you have some vendors buying large amounts of the chips for resale?

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Yeah, 100,000 is going to be no problem whatsoever, my new goal is 250,000 over the next two weeks. Two or three vendors have to boost it a tad to do that, but I have no problem with that at all. We can do the 100,000 without any help, which is really cool.

ANNOUNCEMENT! (or, "blue vs. white solved")

HoldemPokerChips.com has stepped up to help the group buy, and is offering to vend the NCV (non denomination) set of the Pharaoh’s Club Paulson chips! That means that there are now 14 total designs, 7 with denominations and 7 without. You are free to choose any combination of any 14 designs and purchase them during the group buy!

HPC.com’s Pharaoh’s Club NCV order page: http://www.holdempokerchips.com/proddetail.asp?prod=PhaNDPre&cat=36

- Chips (any of the 14) can be bought during the group buy period for 87¢ each
- Chips must be purchased in 25 minimum per design
- Purchase for denominated chips can be made both at ChipTalk.net and at HoldemPokerChips.com
- Purchase of the NCV chips can only be made at HoldemPokerChips.com
- Deadline for group purchases is May 14th, but we urge you to purchase NOW so that we avoid funding delays near the deadline.

If you have already ordered chips and would like to switch out any stack of 25 for a different stack of 25, send an email to greg@thecagles.com if you ordered from ChipTalk.net, and send an email to Sales@HoldemPokerChips.com if you ordered through them. In the email, explain exactly what you want removed and exactly what you want to replace it with. Your total doesn’t change; we will get all of your chips to you no matter what you choose. No increases or decreases in total order allowed! If you want to make a separate order for more chips, just place a second order through ChipTalk.net or HoldemPokerChips.com.

Remember, deadline for getting in on the group buy is midnight (Central) on Saturday, May 14th.
