Yeah I was beat from the get go. This was getting fairly late in the tourny, and a big win here would have put me in a position to coast to the final table, or close to it.

Was this another case of me being too impatient and jumping at a good hand?

I thought he was trying to steal the pot... and I thought, "HAHA, I got you now donny!" Well no he caught me with my hand in the cookie jar.

Another thing I was thinking was, "I can't lay this hand down now, and If I call his bet, we're going to go all in on the turn anyways... figured I shouldn't let him see another card.

I don't know, I messed up.

How would you have played this? I know you would have played it far differently.

Why on earth did you check it and then check raise?

Lets say best case he's on the draw and has nothing or he has nothing at all period. If he checks it as well, you are frozen to a 10 or an ace. If he bets and you come over the top, he's exposed half of his chips, he's gotta call you with whatever he has now, and your hand has to hold up. This is the worst time to check the flop unless you plan to fold, and obviously you don't.

When you flop two pair with connectors, you ALWAYS give somebody the draw, you have to lead out on this pot, or if you check be willing to lay it down, he will either call you or move in. Once that second K comes, it's easy to get away from it. Give yourself a chance to win the pot, and a chance to give up the pot, in this case you didn't do either one.

Be more aggressive. I would have raised pre-flop, first of all. With his hand, he probably calls, but then you have an idea he has something. With that flop, there's a chance he has an A and a really good draw or maybe even the nut straight.

I also would have bet the flop, to deter him from catching a card. If you check and he checks, you've given him that extra chance to steal the pot.

I generally check-raise when I know I have the nutz. I generally lead out strong when I see draw possibilities.

Calling and checking gets you into too much trouble. I think that's where you played it wrong.

Now, if I raise, he calls, and on the flop I raise half the pot, and he comes way over the top, I then know he is representing the nutz. Does he have it? I dunno. But, I have to think about it and decide whether I want to call that much money knowing I could be drawing dead to four cards. Yes, it's hard to get away from the hand either way, but I have way more information than you had.

There's no way I'm ruling out putting him on Johnny Moss here. Particularly after the way he played it pre-flop. The straight heavy flop, and the King overcard would instantly throw up some red flags. Bottom two pair looks mighty small with that straight potential and I don't think he would've played the flop much differently if he had bottom set or something along those lines as well.

Hey guys thanks a lot for the replies.. I appreciate the honesty.

After reading your comments I am now banging my head against my desk. Laughing

I can really see that I played it all wrong.

I fell in love with 2 pairs.

The way I checked, bet and raised was off.

I think I fell in love with a half assed hand because that was the best thing I had seen all night. I was making my money by sitting back and grabbing some blinds and pots on pure bluffs.

Thanks a lot, and feel free to keep it coming!

I've done it before. Misread the flop because I'm blinded by my own hand's perceived strength. You take your lump, learn a lesson, and move on. The more hands you see, the more you learn.
