I get into this situation fairly often, and am not really sure how to play this... I know there are variables as always in poker, but in general what is the idea behind the strategy for this scenario...
Say I have 6x off suit... blinds are cheap or I'm in the BB and I see the flop...
Flop comes 9d 6c 9h.
I have 2 pair... what in the world do I do?
Feel free to answer this when looking at it from various perspectives and scenarios.

In a ring game? If it gets check to me, I bet, or if I'm first to act I either bet or I know I have to fold. I can't call a bet, but I can bet myself. It takes a better hand to call me after all. If I get called, I proceed very carefully.
In a tourney, if I'm late I throw a bet of the pot at it and then give up on it. If I'm early I probably check and fold.
There are other things to consider here, but that is my general advice without anything more. You either have to bet or fold, forget calling your hand sucks.

bingo. I play it exactly the same. Bet it to see where your at. More times then not everyone will fold to your bet. If you get a caller be very carefull. They could be slowplaying the trips. If you get a re-raiser its probably safe to fold. Even if you dont have any pairs or the trips and the board comes X,X,Y then you could try betting at it and taking down the pot.
